You know what's the worst thing? then gay kids like this one kill themselves, and primitive homophobics attribute that to homosexuality itself rather than the social backlash they bring onto them.
The bully is a less-obvious victim though: it takes parents to teach guys how to hate, or let go of any intolerance. Religion is indeed child abuse.

If a vandalized church was discovered somewhere with the message, "Str8 wyte male Krisshuns get out," scrawled in pig's blood on the altar, then the perpetrators, no matter who they were, would be charged with a Hate crime.

If you really think they would be charged with hate crime, you are so naive.

"Government approved group" you say, and yet this distinction does not exist.

If a vandalized church was discovered somewhere with the message, "Str8 wyte male Krisshuns get out," scrawled in pig's blood on the altar, then the perpetrators, no matter who they were, would be charged with a Hate crime.

To translate the legalese into the common vernacular- "Targeting & terrorizing *any* class of people is not cool bro."

@Angilion,

First, thanks for the guidelines to the use of the apostrophe.

Secondly, are you arguing that motive shouldn't count?
for me it does, if i see someone beating the crap out of his kid, and i ask that person why and he gives me two answers:

1: the kid got drunk, "borrowed" the car and nearly killed himself and or someone else.

2: because the parent got drunk and thought his kid made a smartass comment.

in case one, whilst beating the crap out of your kid might not be the best way, i could completely understand the parent.

in case two, i would be very much inclined to beat the crap out of the parent, and show the kid which number to call to get out of that situation.

Not all crimes are equal, therefore not all punishment should be equal.

I, for one, am still anxiously waiting for him to put 2&2 together on the Manslaughter/3rd Degree Murder brain teaser I just saw him avoid outright.

The epic saga of Angilion vs. The Legal System is curiously missing that bit.

I'm not falling for your pretence that "motive" and "membership of a government-approved group" are the same thing.

If you want me to answer your question predicated on the assumption that they are the same thing, you'll first have to convince me that they are the same thing.

"Obviously, it isn't. Equal protection for all requires equal protection for all, not greater protection for people in selected groups."

Angillion, that's so ass-backwards. We should protect bullies and their victims equally? As soon as hate groups start being persecuted violently by their victims, then the law has the responsibility to protect them. As it stands, that isn't the case.

Look back at racism decades ago when law and politics turned the other cheek, protecting KKK from retribution for their hate crimes. Interracial relations are still effected today.

Are you seriously presenting that as a valid interpretation of my post?

It would make more sense as an interpretation of your position.

You are arguing that law and politics should assign a higher status to people in certain groups.

I am arguing against that idea.

I think you're projecting your own thought processes onto me.

Thanks for further elucidating my post Obhwfgirl, sometimes I can't tell if Angilion really is that dense or is just trollin'.

@QueenZira

You're absolutely right. The reason hate crimes SHOULD come with a higher punishment is that they are not just directed personally toward the individual, but to the entire minority.

"Obviously, it isn't. Equal protection for all requires equal protection for all, not greater protection for people in selected groups."

Angillion et. al, quite the opposite in fact. Hate crime laws prosecute an offender for hate/bias motivated crimes, crimes that are meant to send a message to the victimized groups. A message of intimidation, "If this is who you are and you're out there, THIS is gonna happen to you next." It is *based* on equal protection for all.

Obviously, it isn't. Equal protection for all requires equal protection for all, not greater protection for people in selected groups.

Alternatively, it's thoughtcrime because you're imposing additional punishment because of what the perp thought.

And if you keep insisting that motive doesn't matter in criminal cases, then you have to explain why Manslaughter is different from Murder in the 3rd Degree w/o consideration of it.

And you have to explain why the *same* crime is worse against people in some groups than against others.

I spent most of my life in school defending bully victims. Got me in a lot of fights but I don't regret it a bit.

obviously the school's policies are too lenient. this was in a classroom between classes, according to news stories, with teachers right outside. The fact that he waited for him, with no fear of getting caught, shows he knew there would be easy consequences, and thats sad...

I must admit. I like to bully the bullies. Had I been in that room I would have told that dick that if he did anything to that kid I would kick every single one of his teeth down his throat. Does that make me just as bad? idk but i will help defend someone getting beat for no reason.

also, it is the epitome of a hate crime...and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law as such.
