Tuesday, October 25, 2011 9:04:28 PM This is as "racist" as wearing a crappy cowboy costume is racist. Just because it's culturally inaccurate doesn't mean it's racist. So if I wear a cowboy costume covered in rhinestones and is entirely pink colored am I being racist towards Americans because cowboys don't wear that? |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:26:51 PM dressing up as a geshia is not racist. a geshia is a performer, a profession that wears an easy to recognize style of clothing and makeup. this costume is no more racist than dressing up as a doctor or nurse. the girl isn't trying to appeare asian. if this offends you grow up and get a life. |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:23:26 PM "she obviously doesn't know the tradition of the geisha, one of refinement, intelligence, female grace, and sensual arts. if she knew it maybe she wouldn't be offended." That picture is obviously a mockery of Geisha. For someone who acts like she knows a lot about Geisha, you should know they don't really look like that. Please don't pretend like you know sh*t, your ignorance is showing. |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:15:57 PM What's wrong with dressing up as a culture for Halloween? I say everyone who is planning on dressing up so make sure they dress up as offensively as possible. All the white people, dress as stereotypical black gangsters. All the black people dress up as geeky white WOW players. All the Asians should dress up as middle eastern terrorists and all the middle easterners should dress up as Asian nerds. Get the f*ck over it! Don't get offended, get a f*cking sense of humour. |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 1:17:47 PM While I agree with the Mexican one and especially the Arab-Terrorist one, I'm thinking the Geisha image is no more mocking Japanese people than the whole Ninja thing is. (Especially since I've seen Japanese people in Japan do this) |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 10:06:42 AM Does it count if the costume is accurate to the culture? Cause that looks pretty spot on. |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:54:41 AM Whoever came up with this crap needs to get the drat over themselves. There's stereotypical costumes for every race of people, not just minorities. |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 8:34:05 AM Okkkkk... obviously at face value this poster is talking about costumes, but really it's pointing out that racism still exists... It's using halloween as a context, (and that a geisha costume can be packaged as an asian costume etc) to make a point about it why has no one got that??? |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 7:54:08 AM They seem to be under the impression that costumes = bad... just because people dress up as zombies, and ghosts, and "bad" things plenty dress as bunnies, cats, and inanimate objects. Costumes are meant to make us look like something else, nothing more. In fact, in this case it may be mimicry as a form of flattery. She may have chosen her costume because she is studying their culture and loves it. It's all about context and these ads have none. Next time I see someone dressed as Abe Lincoln, or Elvis I'll be sure to tell them they are racist. What do I say for MJ though, does he count as black or white? |

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 7:53:35 AM Wait, thats not racist. I mean, I know that some people care, but jesus, just shut up. We're taught not to stereotype, but that means that we are taught not to be weary of the guy in the trenchcoat or the guy in tracksuits walking at us...it's ridiculous, I dont care if you think this is racist. |
