Why is he surprised that a device for enjoying visual media does not cater well to the visually impaired?

blackcatseye- As someone with 3 blind brothers, and a blind mother who I help navigate through the "non-blind friendly" technology from computers, to cell phones, to dvd players, I find it highly offensive to say, "...see what its like for blind people in Africa for a few weeks." when you obviously haven't been in either situation. Come back and pass judgement when you have.

I love all the comments telling him to be quiet and suffer it, or go spend a few weeks in africa, or to put up with the carp that comes with having disabilities.

None of you probably have anything that even impairs you in any degree as this guy does (unless you count the lack of compassion, and just sheer rudeness), when you've put up and shut up and spent a week in africa as a blind man, then come back and comment. Till then, it's not a 3rd world country he lives in, he has the right to expect to be able to live in it, and do exactly the things that you do, including being able to just watch a damn dvd.

Everyone is pushing people with disabilities to try and live "normally" But most of the time they don't provide the means, including, but not limited to silly things like diferentiating between cash notes. Most people would live normally, but are still reliant on people because of silly things like no braile (and a wide range elsewhere too)

Testosterone poisoning, removes all common sense and rots your brain.

I could reply, but it would get me banned

honkeylips, those machines have braille on them because they are the exact same machines that are also located in the lobby of the building. Why would they go and buy a special one just for the drive-thru?

Seriously America, would one of you just slap that guy? First he wants a car, and is blatantly rude when he doesn't get his way. Maybe he should see what its like for blind people in Africa for a few weeks, then maybe he would learn some manners. Testosterone poisoning, removes all common sense and rots your brain.

Am I the only one who just doesn't like this guy?

The entire world should make everything accessible for the <1% of the world's population that is blind?

"Look at that"

Really? I understand the desire to keep in touch with the world, but this seemed like a waste of time. Unless the point was to get brail instructions into DvD players.

He's not trying to 'watch' the DVD; it's obvious that he would like to listen to the music and dialogue. I'm sure if audio-only versions of all major films were released, he'd be content - but that would be unnecessarily difficult for distribution companies... at least compared to including braille instructions in the DVD packaging.

I notice that he puts Ray on as his first choice; I wonder if blind people tend to like movies/shows with more music in them, such as this one.

It's possible for every product producer who print instruction booklet to add the Braille version or atleast make one available for the customers who require them.
Easily fixed and thank him for bringing this to the attention.

Being blind is one of my greatest fear. Without my glasses I am legally blind. Legally blind is slightly better than complete blindness.

@honkeylips Drive-up ATMs have braille because many blind people use taxis to get around and can't rely on the driver to do the transaction. So, they go to the drive thru and stop the car for the back seat passenger (who is blind) to use the ATM.

Also, blind people can follow stories on TV and in film by listening to the dialogue and music.

This is kind of like the drive up ATMs having braille on them; neither one makes much sense to me.

If I was blind I'd probably just get a subscription to satellite radio or something and call it good.
I'm not much of a TV person anyway.

the poor guy, I feel really sorry for him watching this. At least he keeps a smile on his face, the trooper.
