Saturday, October 22, 2011 11:46:21 AM They do the same things with license plates too, why is this confusing? They also never use area codes when they give a number either... |

Saturday, October 22, 2011 8:26:41 AM 555 is used as a dialling code in movies. We know this. Is that all this video is showing? People using it in movies? |

Saturday, October 22, 2011 4:45:11 AM I'm sorry, but what is interesting about this? 'm British, and know that the films use 555 because it is not used in any real US numbers. |

Friday, October 21, 2011 7:14:06 PM Using 555 for fictional numbers is older than the Tommy Tutone incident, however it was a catalyst the made it this prevalent now. This usage existed as far back as the 60's but is much more noticeable now in today's litigious society with fewer entertainment purveyors insulating themselves from future indemnities. |

Friday, October 21, 2011 6:57:04 PM @Altaru "Not all numbers that begin with 555 are fictional—for example, 555-1212 is one of the standard numbers for directory assistance throughout the United States and Canada. In fact, only 555-0100 through 555-0199 are now specifically reserved for fictional use - except for the 800 area code where only 800-555-0199 is reserved - and the other numbers have been released for actual assignment." So close but not exactly anymore, and the 555 is not the area code it's just the first three numbers of the seven digit telephone number, the area code comes before that. Anyone else have the urge to call the 555 numbers in this that are not still reserved? |

Friday, October 21, 2011 2:06:18 PM @skytz1337: the kid is right... numbers 0001 to 9999 are 9999 numbers. then there is also 0000 which makes it 10000 |

Friday, October 21, 2011 9:51:59 AM I'm not sure you'd call it a cliche when it is an intention device. I'm not sure that is what is meant by cliche. |

Friday, October 21, 2011 9:07:32 AM It's not a cliche, it's to keep stupid people from calling the number. Phone services specifically set that area code aside to make sure movies have generic phone numbers. Because otherwise, a million idiots would start calling REAL numbers in the middle of the night, like they did before this policy was put in place. |

Friday, October 21, 2011 9:06:40 AM It's reasonable, because movies can't give you a real number, or else someone would be severely harassed. |

Friday, October 21, 2011 8:31:16 AM I don't think it's so much of a cliche as it is a tool so that morons don't get anywhere if they actually try to call the numbers, like when Tommy Tutone's song Jenny had a bunch of idiots calling 867-5309. |
