Questions I'm surprised about:

34% of them believe capital gains should be 50%-100%
I wonder if they know that the US has the highest 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world already...

Only 2% got the federal reserve question right?
Hand grenade, definitley.

Only 10% knew the tax rate of the top 1%.

Yet they want to raise it. Why would you want to raise it if you don't even phucking know how much is taken from them already?!?

I got four of them right.
Than again, I took it knowing that I didn't know most of the information.
I don't have an opinion on the protest because I have an extreme lack of information.
Due to the debate over the topics being protested, I can't get any answers that aren't biased.

In all fairness to the New York, which was obviously intending to make people look stupid, if the last question is honest and accurate, these people shouldn't be voting much less protesting.

@Oster: The reason combining those two is relevant because I am quite certain that these are probably the two areas where the OWS crowd would endorse much higher spending levels. Yes, they are two separate "categories" of spending, but are the same "type" of spending. i.e. Spending on people rather than on guns.

I agree that you don't have to know every specific fact of how the economy works to protest it. But there is a very specific issue with these people: 62% of them underestimate the tax rate that the wealthy already pay. 32% of them think that the tax rate for rich people IS ZERO TO TEN PERCENT! If you are going to be angry at someone for the amount of tax they pay, you should at least have SOME clue as to how much they are paying.

Oster

That is not the point. The quiz was there to find if they actually were well-informed about the issues most of them are protesting - and they are not. Like all lefties, they are some distance from reality.

They are clearly ignorant, but not more ignorant than average people, I would suggest. However average people are not protesting about issues on which they are ignorant.

Healthcare and pensions are separate categories, each individually less than defense spending, but they combined the two in the quiz. I noticed the quiz doesn't actually ask anything about why the protestors say they are there.

Yea got most of them right myself, except the last one...kinda bs to combine healthcare and pensions when defense spending is the largest. I also don't consider 50 people to be representative of this movement, and also question the randomness of selection given a few of the off answers.

The majority got most of the questions right.

That last one could be asked, which Federal Department has the largest budget? By far it's Defense. They get more money than all the other Departments combined at over $560 billion a year, and that's without special appropriations for Iraq and Afghanistan.

OWS will fail for the simple reason most people do not know what the real facts are.

How would they not know how they're being raped? Btw, this survey is brilliant.

I'd like to quote myself...
"I think it's also worth pointing out that government spending is usually characterized as "wasteful." So the last question shows an important point of view despite being largely incorrectly answered"

...and ask the usual right wing suspects to comment. Crackerjackass and Auburnflunky leap readily to mind. Could it be that the Tea Party and OWS have war spending complains in common? Or are OWS protestors entirely different because their signs are spelled correctly?... College... what waste.

lol last answer only talks about 2010..fail.
Does "pensions" include bailing out the banks?

So the protesters shouldnt get what they want because they dont know the answers.
So its ok to rape someone and cause lots of physical/emotional damage as long as that someone doesn't know how they're being raped?

@CrakrJak, They're being taken about as seriously as the Tea-Party was in the early days of that movement. They were just as inconsistent about their shared beliefs and goals and general knowledge about government and US History. They had a flair for rhetoric and theatrical costumes, tended to be mouthpieces for right-wing media propaganda, all of the same issues.

Eventually something more cohesive will distill out of this movement and we'll have a counter-point to the Tea-Party movement.

I don't believe you need to be a political science major to have an opinion about how government should work, especially when you feel it's not directly working for the interests of a majority of citizens.

Some of those are tough questions for an average American to know. If it weren't for the Daily Show I wouldn't have gotten a lot of those right myself.
The defense budget is questionable. Seems to me to be a big disparity between the defense budget and what we're spending per day to have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq alone, much less around the rest of the world. Still believe that a good deal of the costs of military action worldwide is hidden in various ways.

The Tea Party gets a pass because they are "average Americans" and supposed to be idiots. They don't know government because they have jobs and families and stuff! The liberal movement is held to standards because it should be. OWS win.

P.S. I was originally going to post this, but didn't because I didn't find the Newsweek poll.

"Pathetically ignorant, it's no wonder they aren't being taken seriously."

1) I will very happily quiz you, on video, on your economy, or any other topic you consistently demand to be taken seriously on.

2) Despite low sample size, I'm happy to compare that to the general population. "Name the chairman of the federal reserve" getting 40%?

Should it be more? Sure.
Is it already better than the general population would do? Probably.

So, new question. Given that evidence suggests the average American gives stupider answers, why should you be taken seriously?

I honestly don't think anyone in the country, whether a left wing nut job or a normal person would be able to answer most of those questions properly.

As a person who is not American, your country sure seems fuucked.
