The cop plainly comes up to them, in a polite manner and informs them the park is closed after midnight, and they are more than welcome to come back after it opens. If they stay, they will be arrested.
Is that concept new? Do you march into stores that are closed and say, It's ok Mr. Owner, I'll be quiet.

on a side note, would the parks be the best place for the protesters to be at night? Better then the streets I'd think... (keeping them out of peoples hair I'm thinking) |

They were in a park after it's closed. They were singin and playing music. The cop asked them very politly to leave for several minutes before arresting them. What more do you want? |

No-one in NYC takes these people seriously. They are all corralled in certain areas, and few move anywhere else. SO, until they start tearing crap down, the city will be very ho-hum about it. <~ what a friend that lives in NYC told me :P |

Call it what you will, they're breaking the law to get their point across, I find killing the people who defend the law makers to be more productive.
If police officers start dying, they will declare martial law and then millions will rally to protest.
Riot squads, tear gas and fire hoses don't work too well when half the crowd is armed and firing weapons.
But, people are cowards, continue the ineffective protesting. |

The protesters here are camping out in James Park. Police haven't told them to leave. |

I have never been to New York City. Can somebody please explain to me why these people are wanting to stay there if the officer even suggested that there were other places for them to legally be. Call me ignorant, but it seems to me these are the kinds of people that blast out the law without actually understanding it fully. And why be disrespectful to the officer when he kindly asked for just a moment of their time to explain himself? |
