Davymid, I take back what I said about Heureux in the other post. I didn't realize that he was projecting bigotry.

I genuinely didn't see this as a joke. Religion says god is everywhere, that's a fact, so why does this dumb poo Beiber goes all the way to my city to be closer to god?

Organised religion seeks power, which requires it to convince believers that it controls access to their god(s) in some way. So it must teach that physical location is at least very relevant, if not absolutely essential.

Medieval Catholic Christianity is perhaps the best example of that. That church gained fabulous wealth and power by convincing vast numbers of people that was true and openly selling divine favour to them. I mean that literally - that church took vast sums of money from people in exchange for "guaranteeing" preferential treatment in the afterlife. Modern American Christianity tries, with a fair degree of success, to do the same thing.

It's why for some while the punishment for translating the bible into a language many people could read was death.

this could be the dumbest statement i've ever read...i wish i could somehow unread it...

You haven't read enough Heureux, because he managed to top that a couple of posts later with this:

Why is it ok for anti-religion hate speech to appear here every day, but accurate, fair, and civil criticism of atheism is labeled trolling?
Atheism is a prejudice.

To be fair, I'm not sure that Heureux was trolling. He might be irrational, bigoted and hypocritical enough for his posts to have been genuine.

I'll pretend he [Heureux]was just trolling and didn't actually believe what he said

He didn't. It is impossible to believe what he said.

The core of his "argument" was that it is irrational prejudice to not believe what other people believe, on the basis that doing so somehow denies their beliefs, which Heureux claimed were evidence.

In order to believe what he said, Heureux would have to believe everything that anyone has ever believed.

Not just every religion that has ever existed (including the ones that we know little or nothing about because they disappeared so long ago), but also every tale of every mythological character (e.g. the labours of Heracles), every tale of every supernatural creature or person (faeries, werewolves, etc, etc), every conspiracy "theory", every tale of aliens...etc, etc.

So no, he didn't believe what he said.

Closer to God as in understanding the roots of his religion, I'd assume. As in, his personal relationship with God. I R SMRT.

Not normally a fan of the fella, but he does make a pretty funny point. Plus he's got a massive glass of wine and a cute cat. I'm on board.

glad that guy got banned. i'm very religious, i think this is funny as hell. atheists aren't bigots. although, i've had the misfortune to meet a few people who think being atheists gives them a right to start a ridiculous fight with me over it. but those are just idiots, and every group has those.

It wasn't funny until the cat and the glass of wine.

Then it was only mildly funny.

atheists talking about religion are like celibate priests talking about sex

Wow, you just proved how absolutely ignorant you are.

You have NO idea how many atheists are people who've been religious, and turned away because they saw that there was no light, just a bunch of bullsh*t wrapped up in a pretty package.

You're a hypocrite. And a troll.

You claim that atheists make broad generalizations about religious people?

WTF are you doing?

(Just now read that he was B&. Still posting this. Love how you called him out on the fact that he always disappears when someone comes up with an argument he can't fight back against, Davy.)

Aww, now I'll never get the opportunity to delve into the depraved labyrinth that is Heureux' mind to determine why he feels he needs to satisfy his egotistical desire for attention. I had theories it has to do with some sense of feeling not worthy of the attention he now craves, maybe mommy and daddy didn't put baby Heureux' drawings on the fridge, or perhaps the teachers in school placed him in the remedial program. I've seen just about all of the psychological defence mechanisms: denial, reaction formation, projection, etc. Maybe if I had a little more time to give him the help he craves then I...oh wait I don't care any more.

Try 4Chan, you'd fit right in.

HA! I'd like to see that.

Arg! What a retard Heureux is (was). I'll pretend he was just trolling and didn't actually believe what he said, just to maintain my sanity.

I like Gervais. His whole demeanor screams "professional comedian". He's one of the best. He's made some poor decisions in the past though, in the name of celebrity.
