Thursday, October 13, 2011 7:50:48 PM LOL, MAGGIE DOWN! They know that Maggies misplaced playing paw will likely turn the pup into a past tense carpet stain. Very smile inducing. |

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 4:40:05 PM Angilion: We have Wikipedia. Thanks.. That's nice for you, but it's no substitute for knowing what to look for. Wikipedia didn't write the text I quoted, which predates Wikipedia by a couple of hundred years. |

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 3:20:59 PM "What the Lion is to the Cat the Mastiff is to the Dog, the noblest of the family; he stands alone, and all others sinking before him. His courage does not exceed its temper and generosity and in attachment he equals the kindest of his race. His docility is perfect; the teasing of the smaller kinds will hardly provoke him to resent, and I have seen him down with his paw the Terrier or cur that has bit him, without offering further injury. In a family he will permit the children to play with him and will suffer all their little pranks without offence. The blind ferocity of the bulldog will often wound the hand of the master who assists him to combat, but the Mastiff distinguishes perfectly, enters the field with temper, and engages the attack as if confident of success: if he overpowers, or is beaten, his master may take him immediately in his arms and fear nothing.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 3:18:13 PM Mastiffs are so cute! I want one D: Funny that she didn't get terribly mad until the Chihuahua bit her mouth xD English mastiffs are noted for their stable temperament. She wasn't really angry, just mildly irritated. More "go away" than "I'm going to kill you". They've been prized since at least Roman times and almost certainly before then (a lack of written records makes it impossible to be sure). They were just the job for guarding your villa because they'd be gentle with your family and ferocious with intruders. They'd even go into battle with their master - they were the literal dogs of war. |
