Ahhh....UK. That explains it. If it was in the US it would take 18 months and go over budget by a few million. Not to mention that there would be 20 people standing around doing nothing.

@CaptainPabst lol. Com'on, did no one else see it? The little road sweepers jumping in and grabbing some rubble, then moving out as soon as the big boy swing around. Just reminded me of lions and hyenas.

Why not just leave it there? Whos it bothering? A disused bridge. One day it'll be an ancient monument...

The puppet masters are planning on replacing operators with computers.

So, why'd they tear it down? It must have been a pretty damned good bridge if it could hold both of those track-hoes.

In America I think they'd spend four days rigging it, a few seconds blowing it up, and another four days clearing the debris.

In China, this poo gets done in half the time. In the USA, this poo takes 18 weeks.
I kid you not, I have lived in both countries and wittnessed construction projects in both.

I smiled, towards the end where the diggers are moving rubble to a transport there're sweepers waiting. Seemed just like when a lion pride is eat a kill. The small ones wait 'til last but try to jump in from time to time (if you watch).

The A1M as someone else said is a major artery, you can't blow poo up on such major routes, it's like that carmageddon bridge in LA recently. Dismantling it via jcb's/caterpillar's is far more straightforward and guarantees a result.

Doing it that way purely meant they didn't have to close before to install explosives, they also didn't have to close right through, until they were detonated. Health and safety would never have allowed the carridge way to stay live during that time.

The A1(M) is one of the main routes through the UK, and to close it for several days to "blow it up" would've been impossible. It was closed for less than a day, and it's pretty impressive how quickly it came down, with the least amount of fuss. Sometimes blowing things up just isn't necessary.

pmarren the intersting fact on this work is that they don't have destroied the bridge as in some redneck dream, they have dismantled it piece to piece with a clean and well organized work.

I've seen much more efficient removal of a bridge with some well placed explosives.
