@cajun Well, I can't recall off the top of my head an instance right now, but often, regardless of how much knowledge a foreigner has about the system, your opinion is declared null and void due to the fact that you live elsewhere. I figured I'd stick to what happened to us Canadians, and let folks take what they would from it.

Thanks though, perhaps I may dip my toe into the waters yet and give my opinion on the political race.

@Kalimata

You'd be surprised (I was) I think many foreigners understand a LOT more about our laws than many Americans do. Considering the influence we wield in the world there is certainly a huge incentive to do so. But as long as I've been on this forum I've never seen a foreigner get "shouted down" as you put it.

Yeah, it's a big media conspiracy. The media all got together and they are the ones in control. LOL

I'm Canadian, and because of this, I won't comment on the U.S. political race. Not because I have no opinion, but foreigners commenting on U.S. politics usually get shouted down. I'll speak to experience and tell about our(past)minority government and why not having House and Senate majority for the president can be a good thing.

Bi-partisan politics go out the window. Compromise is made. Without the backing of all parties in the House, Conservative policies had to be tempered with Liberal and NDP sensibilities, (and BLOC if you care). A sort of built in check and balance. Remember, Canadians didn't vote primarily for the leader, so to push His agenda through via majority seats didn't reflect the bulk of Canadian sensibilities.

Perhaps Dr. Paul might make a good leader, without full power in the House and Senate. With 4 years perhaps people can learn to compromise and work together like a Republic is supposed to do, to reflect the will of it's people.

Empire ? An empire is ran by either a monarch or an oligarchy. So am I to guess that you're calling Obama a king ? or is that an rhetorical swipe at Wall St. ? Either way it's erroneous and stupid.

The Romans had an empire while they still had a Republic, as did the British when they had a parliament.

Today we got territories which we're seemingly reluctant to grant statehood, military bases across the world mostly for secure access to oil fields, and ships patrolling waters we claim no sovereignty to. Either way you invoke the hasty generalization.

CJ, You know exactly what I meant. We still have bases in Japan, Germany, and Korea. You think we'll ever leave Iraq? or Afghanistan? The answer is no. That's what I meant by "empire" not monarchy. As Howard Sterns father Ben used to tell Howard: "Stop being stupid you moron".

We are a constitutional democratically elected republic, if you insist on mocking it, as some other system, then perhaps this country isn't fit for you and you should seek another.

How much can any President get done when there is NO hope of congressional support?

Not a bad thing really, since he won't push for more spending bills a lot of superfluous funding will dry up forcing Congress's hand.

he wants fewer regulations so giant corporations could ass-rape our country without a condom.

Too many innocuous business actions are overcriminalized, as a matter of fact the government is part of the reason why got these nefarious corporations a la FCC.

He's a Christian fundamentalist that could be more dangerous than a war mongerer.

Yet another gross exageration.

And why is madest posting a pro-Ron Paul video while simultaneously calling him a lunatic?

-----------------
Because I'd like to see an end to our wars and our empire. Crazy old man Ron is the only candidate speaking my language in that aspect. On the down side, his views on Wall St. are insane, he wants fewer regulations so giant corporations could ass-rape our country without a condom. He's a Christian fundamentalist that could be more dangerous than a war mongerer. But I look at him as sort of a "reset" button. He is the only republican candidate that would receive cross-over votes in a general election and could be the only republican that could beat Obama.

IF I was American I would vote for this guy.

Plus, how is refraining to occupy forgein lands (and denying millions their liberty) now called 'isolationist'? Perhaps anti-imperialist is a better word. The world would love the USA if you would just stop invading, terrorizing us, bombing us, and supporting the worst of the worst possible rulers over us by giving them money and advanced weapons (and crowd control materials).

Paul has said that he would pull our military out of every base around the world, leave the UN, end all foreign aid, and only defend our own borders. That sounds pretty damn isolationist to me.

Exaggeration, should be done, should be done, umm most acceptable. No it's called non-interventionism.

I dunno, because it's an idiotic foreign policy?

Which is more idiotic not intervening or intervening at every opportunity we get?

Watch this sheeple. Open your eyes, free your mind. You have been lied to by the establishment. There are people with a specific agenda conspiring for control. They want power. It's time to take action! To take matters into your own hands! If you don't do something now, history will repeat itself!
All you have to do is think for yourself.
Be watchful, stay vigilant.

Sure, the media has a bias against Ron Paul, but fair or not, OCCASIONALLY biases are right. If elected, Paul would not have support from democrats OR republicans. How much can any President get done when there is NO hope of congressional support?

Love him or hate him, doesn't matter. He can't be successful.

Sorry to say this but the way the United States is now Won't be around in a couple years. Don't Get me wrong, there will be a United States, but just won't look like the United States of today.

It won't matter who wins the next election, the polls have already been rigged. If you don't make a million dallors a month, own or control a corporation, and/or secured a "cash cow" worth millions. Your vote won't count, or a least not the way you think it will.

One can be imprisoned by the restriction of the free flow of information. Those the wish to restrict your (and others) access to information, see themselves your master. As Americans will soon see...

"pathetic americans thinking they actually have democracy in their country"

You're correct, but not because of the reason you think. The U.S. is not a democracy and never was. It's a Representative Republic. BIG difference.

"Assuming that is true, what's wrong with it? You'd save billions in military spending."

I dunno, because it's an idiotic foreign policy? It would be nice if the world was that simple, but it's unfortunately not.
