i usually don't like the way cops deploy their tazers, but i feel the cop is probably in the right on this situation. unfortunate that it hit the guy in the head but i have seen cops have to tackle people and throw them to the ground to make them stop fighting. they are in their own rage filled world at that moment and its the cops job to put an end to it in the safest way possible, the head shot was just bad luck. just my opinion though... |

Oh, and you can't hear it on the video (since the cop is on the other side of the street as the kid filming it on his phone) the cop DID tell them to stop. I suppose though that those of us on the internet just assume because the cameraman yells something loud it's true. |

This is from my home town (London, Ontario, Canada). For the record, the fight was in an area of town known for drugs, prostitution and violence, in the middle of one of the busiest streets... oh, and barely a block away from the police station. So for starters, there are ALWAYS cops in that area and everybody knows it. It is not uncommon for our cops to stand off to the side at let a fight run its course if it's only a few harmless swings and then it's over. They knew full well he was there, he just didn't step in until it got out of hand.
Protocol in CANADA is that you can use a tazer if the person is behaving in such a way that it would be dangerous to use physical force, but not so dangerous that live ammo is justified. Although I suppose some of you are right, it would have been better to use a real gun or to beat them down repeatedly with a club. |

Seriously though, if I was a cop and two guys were swinging so hard that they didn't even stop when I came up, I'd taze them too. You never know who's crazy and is just going to turn around and come at you. |

The thing is, the police bypassed protocol. Doesn't even matter who hit first in the fight. If we allow one exception today, one tomorrow, soon the police will do whatever they like and no one would stood up. Even if I was the guy getting my ass kicked, and a police (alone) tased the other guy like that, I'd probably hit the police officer without thinking twice. |

Orchideous - How many deaths are caused by one on one fights? drating thousands you dumb drat. You can have all the muscle power in the world to break it up, but one bad fall, one knocked head and its game over. The cop did fine. The fight was ended. I mean who the drat fights in a big group anymore anyway? Grow the drat up. |

simple really don't break the law, then you wont get tazered, personally could not give a dam if he was shot in face, balls, arse crack or what ever. People get on there high horses about warning etc etc, |

Regardless of the practicalities of the situation, the orificer did not follow procedure and the outcome was bad. He deserves disciplinary measures, and criminal penalties if it is found that he has not acted in accordance with the law.
"its easier to handcuff some one who's been tazed." softening up somebody for the sake of convenience is not a reason for tazing somebody. By the same token it's easier to extract a confession from a suspect with a toilet plunger shoved up his rectum. |

I've seen this happen before outside the Rose Garden in Portland, OR. The guys were on top of each other fighting and the next thing I hear is "tzzzzz". It's probably not the best thing to do if you don't give a warning or your presence known. However, with an aggressor you never know what's going to happen when you say, "Heyo, I'm from the PD, would you kindly stop fighting before I taze you?" |
