I submit that the national anthem be composed entirely of electric guitars a la Jimi Hendrix.

why do they always over sing it? There is no dignity to that. I think the original anthem "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" had an altogether more dignified and patriotic sound to it.

Anyway, the complicated lyrics of the current anthem are beyond the abilities of most current US residents; it needs to be dumbed down in phases. In stage one, which has already been implemented, they just replace every word with "USA" chanted in monotone and even tempo.

Come the 2020's, the difficult "A" will be dropped, and a decade from that, the "S". The next version will omit all letters and tones altogether for a gutteral "ugh ugh ugh", and finally it will reach the epitome of the nation's development, that of simple heavy breathing while fondling one's own genitals.

I think our National Anthem should be changed from the current to John Lydon's God Save the Queen

I think it's a conspiracy... The American Anthem is up there with the worst Anthems in the world - I bet its sole purpose is to be used as a weapon against celebs.

Yeah, the Rosanne incident killed me. So, they decide to ask Rosanne, a comedianne known for her crass humour, and extremely annoying voice, to sing the anthem. And they expected what, exactly?

Were they booing Rosanne??

I loved that the crowds actually turned on those who were singing it wrong.

The problem is that, when it comes to the anthem, people don't sing the goddamn song as much as warble it.

ok we know that Rosanne was acting and Maya was doing that as a skit for SNL when she was impersonating Christina's fail version.

I think it's quite a tacky thing celebrities singing the national anthem. The singers are even worse though as they over-sing every line something chronic.

No, it's going to sound horrible when they start singing the US Anthem like completely tone deaf retards.

Was I the only one who thought Rebecca Black's small clip was somewhat good?

On the other hand, it was barely even three seconds.

"First of all, it's just an anthem. It's not so important that it must be sung flawlessly. In fact I consider it a waste of time in all circumstances."

It's called having national pride/patriotism (in the US).

It goes hand in hand with the flag, it represents and stands for everything your country has stood for, it's what the forefathers/ancestors died and lived for. It's a matter of pride. Now that they play it at every sporting event, is stupid for one reason: Sports are stupid.

Nobody can sing this song without adding a "personal touch" to it. This is why I like the instrumental version.

First of all, it's just an anthem. It's not so important that it must be sung flawlessly. In fact I consider it a waste of time in all circumstances.

Second, the title of this post is misleading, although that, of course, is expected.

Is it mandatory to butcher your anthem every time it is sang at a sporting event? You can't just get a good/famous singer to sing it normally/good?
