Saturday, September 24, 2011 8:25:28 PM First they need to ask: Are there any black women who are actually interested in white guys? |

Thursday, September 22, 2011 10:32:50 AM ballsy? more like it was a boring news day. the only thing WSJ wanted to stir up was some controversy, not actual thought. |

Thursday, September 22, 2011 9:47:17 AM And yes, I am saying that the entire idea of race is made up and silly. It's not real. Yes it is. Look at the epicanthic fold that is present in many Asian races. Or the typically higher bone density in black people compared to other ethnicities. There are differences amongst the races. It's not even a real description of skin colour, which is only varying degrees of suntan anyway. Obviously not the case, otherwise all newborn babies would logically be white since they have never been exposed to the sun. |

Thursday, September 22, 2011 6:05:25 AM I didn't feel like reading the article, but I don't see why they can't. My mom's black, married a white guy, and my brother and I turned out alright. However, I never had any attraction to black guys, I dunno if that was a side affect of my upbringing. I married a white guy, is that considered marrying outside half of my race? |

Thursday, September 22, 2011 12:38:43 AM Who gives a monkey's? If they want to do it and somebody's willing to have them, then what's the big deal? It's not like they're going extinct. |

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 7:18:50 PM Angilion-" before anyone made up the silly idea of race" I think you need to go back to science class. Angilion-"The idea of race hadn't been made up." And add a couple of history classes along with it. Try and study the racial exclusiveness amoung the Greeks during the time of Alexander. Study the Graco-Roman civilization which included the Egyptians, Jews and Greeks. They also had trouble with the Ptolemies. FYI, this time was in excess of 2,300 years ago. (also, the migration into England started occuring in 5,000 BC...that's a little more than 900 or 2,000 years ago). |

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 3:48:58 PM they didnt care 200+ years ago during slavery why start now? They didn't care 2000+ years ago before anyone made up the silly idea of race, either. And yes, I am saying that the entire idea of race is made up and silly. It's not real. It's not even a real description of skin colour, which is only varying degrees of suntan anyway. It's dumb that anyone cares and it's a recent kind of dumb. For example, we know that people emigrated from Africa to England from about 900 years ago onwards (and probably before, very likely almost 2000 years ago, during the Roman occupation). There aren't specific records about it because nobody cared back then. The idea of race hadn't been made up. A foreigner was a foreigner. Where they came from didn't matter as long as it wasn't France. |

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 3:21:37 PM @simbha - While I agree with everything you said, I think the point to it being here is in fact that the question was asked wrong to begin with. If it had in fact been worded the way you did, I doubt there would be as much f an issue. But because it wasn't, it makes it seem almost as if it perpetuates racism, if only by bringing it up again |

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 2:38:17 PM This IS NOT the question posed in the WSJ article. The question posed there is "Should MORE black women marry outside their race?" And, the article is simply describing that 70% of black women are unmarried - and this may be due to cultural pressures to stay within their 'race'. So, the question posed is essentially "Should the cultural barriers hindering black women from marrying outside their 'race' be broken down so that more of these women can feel comfortable marrying someone else?" Yes, that's a 2011 question because it addresses continuing to break down contemporary stereotypes - in this case, those perpetuated by those of the ethnic group itself. |
