To see something similar, try finding the origin of the word "escape." Another weird word that has come to existence in our lifetime, "debit," which did not exist before the mid-80's and became a listed word in the 90's, has it's origin in misunderstanding, mispronunciation and regional dialectic twist of the word "debt." When people were asked to pronounce it then, write it, the most common misspelling/mispronunciation of "debt" became a newly listed English word. BTW, going by that standard, "jiggy" as in "gettin' jiggy wit' it" should now be listed...
