we donated my grandfather's body to science. about 5 years later they were done with it, and asked us to arrange for it to be picked up. we then still had to pay for burial. WTF? |

You guys don't understand. The funeral is not for the dead, it's for the living. It's part of the ritual greiving process. For some it's necessary, for others it's not.
To me it's a waste of money but if other's need it why judge? |

It's for those silly christians who are insecure about death that they think they need something fancy to be dead in. Completely counter-intuitive of course.
Personally, I don't want a funeral. When I die, in the year 2106, I want my body donated to science. Let there be some use from it. No need to be an organ donor cause by then all organs except perhaps the brain will be manufactured easily.
Penn and Teller had an episode criticizing this whole "death inc.". Let's see..
