Friday, September 09, 2011 7:02:40 PM Oh, ok, I see what you were asking. We don't have anything like that. The only ones I know of who rate wearing Marine uniforms would be US Navy Corpsman (medics) or Chaplains. The USMC doesn't have our own, we use US Navy medics and Chaplains. When they're attached to one of our units they have the option to wear our Desert/Woodland MARPAT camouflage as well as Service (Khaki Blouse/OD Green Trousers) uniforms with their US Navy rank insignia modified for use with the USMC uniform. Other than that, the only uniform items shared between services are certain medals/ribbons. Marines and Navy also have similar Pilot/Jump Wings and things of that nature but that's really it. |

Friday, September 09, 2011 6:38:07 PM Yes, we have a few different types of Combined Arms Exercises, they're more like training though, and live fire exercises but they do get competitive between the different branches. Not quite what I was thinking of. The RMC all arms course is more like RMC testing for other soldiers. Those who pass earn the right to wear the same colour beret as a royal marine, regardless of what unit they're in. It doesn't make them a royal marine, but it's a definite achievement. We also do joint exercises with some allies from time to time, but they're not really meant to be a competition. It just always ends up that way! It's the military way. I recently watched some stuff on artificial limbs being used in a military hospital/rehab centre here. They had interviews with some people who were being treated there. There was inter-unit competition, things like seeing who'd walk again first. Friendly competition is useful. |

Friday, September 09, 2011 6:34:06 PM @Angilion maybe they dont have the right equipment/weights for the guy on the bottom to lift his max. it's possible that the bottom guy is bench pressing the top guy who is holding a log stable for extra weight. |

Friday, September 09, 2011 5:24:02 PM @Angilion Yes, Marines are not called "soldiers" we're only referred to as "Marines" Same with British Royal Marines and Republic of Korea (ROK) Marines. I have no clue what the hell these guys are doing in the picture, never seen anything like it before. |

Friday, September 09, 2011 5:16:49 PM whodat6484: My idle curiousity has popped up a question you should be able to answer. Is it possible for people from other parts of the USA military to test themselves against USA Marine Corps standards? I'm asking because it's possible here in the UK - the Royal Marines run the All Arms course for, as the name suggests, all arms of the military. |

Friday, September 09, 2011 4:59:16 PM So...marines aren't soldiers? What are they, then? Carpenters? Why is there someone else under him? Is there something I don't know about bench-pressing logs that makes it a good idea to have someone under you while doing it? A strong person each end to take the weight if necessary, certainly. That's very sensible. But underneath you? |

Friday, September 09, 2011 4:06:33 PM People have the right to say whatever the f**k they want, it's a free country. If you're gonna say/type something, you might as well do it right. To quote a Marine interviewed for HBO's Generation Kill, "You have the right to say whatever you want and we have the right to punch you in the f**king mouth if we disagree." |

Friday, September 09, 2011 3:15:16 PM Those are Marines, they're wearing Woodland MARPAT, only Marines wear that, not soldiers. I'm a Marine and you better fix that caption because Marines get really angry if we're referred to as "soldiers" or "army" |

Friday, September 09, 2011 1:30:00 PM Yeah, that's the Marine corps. The Army can barely work out with resistance bands. |
