SmilinSam: Where will you get your flour, butter, and yeast from ?

If there ever was an apocalypse the people best prepared for it are the Mennonites and the Amish, their skills and the teaching of them would be in high demand.

Nyan: your precious metals and gemstones will be worthless.

Gold, silver, and gems will always be valuable commodities. They may seem useless by themselves but they can will still be used monetarily.

That's not to say other things won't rise in value but rare metals and gems will always be valuable.

Invest in silver, then you'll be the richest man in the post apocalyptic world

Except that there is no such thing as the apocalypse

You can try to counter that, but even if you succeed, it would be a waste of time, wouldn't it?

Also Taintteddy is an idiot. Yes those metals cannot be artificially produced and are a TRUE limited supply, if you actually look at silver the price has risen 400% in a year. has your us property value?

Stop thinking that money is money and understand its only coupons. Silver did well for a while til they started manipulating the market.it will go up and up again ...but mainly because the US dollar is almost worthless and will be even more so tommorrow. Those companies are growing..but not as fast as the dollar is dropping.

The Dark Tower series (haven't finished, no spoilers please) has taught me that in a post apocalyptic world paper will be pretty rare.

Yes, I think farms, guns, ammunition and toilet paper will be worth more in the Post Apocalyptic world.
And 'feminine products'... think about it, they'll be like gold!

vv @Crackr when gold hit 1200, I thought for sure it had peaked. Thus I am still poor! lolz!

People have accumulated a lot of wealth in this very strange and troubled world economy. If the currencies start to fall like dominoes, the only question is who will transfer their wealth forward to the next world order, and who will be forced to start from scratch. Gold is the ideal vehicle for preserving wealth and transferring it from a failed currency to a new one. It's also the most resilient form of wealth, able to withstand the most devastating economic disasters. That's the whole idea behind gold, and the only reason people give it any value at all.

If you think your economy is run in an unsustainable way, you should own gold. If you think the negativity is overblown, you should avoid gold. It's as simple as that.

Gold has went from $1200 and ounce to over $1800 in a year, That's a 50% gain, I've yet to hear of a single stock that's done better this year.

Is it just me, or are the descriptions of posts on IAB Fail City lately?

This description was just stupid, as pointed out in great detail by tainteddeity.
