"...why is beer sold with the groceries? Maybe I'm just too used to where I live, but here you normally only see beer in liquor shops; the only alcohol you see in groceries is cough medicine and the occasional vanilla extract."

where i live, you don't see alcohol in cough medicine...

Yeah but now the grocery store that does this (Bloom) is turning themselves back into Food Lion. Bloom was really nice while it lasted.

Most supermarkets have many tricks up there sleeve to ensure you walk past as many products as possible as this generates more sales. Same as the old trick of putting all premium brands at eye level as the shops make more money from these. When it gets down to it supermarkets are pretty dirty players that try to give off the impression that butter wouldn't melt.

Most grocery stores are similarly set up anyways, The milk product coolers are always in the back, fruit and veggies in the front, meat along the sidewall. Basically it's designed so that you have to walk around the outside walls to get to the items in the basic food groups.

If you frequent the same grocery store you don't need a map. It's like living in the same town for a while. Do you still need a map to find the grocery store in your town? Or the post office? Or the library? I don't understand why so many people have such underdeveloped spacial skills that they can't map out an environment in their heads using key points of reference.

Can you image an app of your grocery store? You can search for a product and it will tell you exactly where it is in the store.

They purposely don't give maps, so you have to wander around the store, spending more time inside, seeing more things to buy. It is the same reason they re-arrange stock regularly and keep the most regularly bought items in the back. Also loyalty cards help them to keep track of buying trends which they base the stock relocation on.

Some of the stores in my area do have these signs, for which I am very grateful. I have a visual handicap that makes it nearly impossible for me to see a sign unless I'm standing at the end of the aisle. I also have a much lamented complete lack of directional sense. So, these are really handy.

Do people really need a map to find their way around the grocery store when there are already large signs above every aisle/section? And I thought I had a bad sense of direction.

I think the map in this picture is actually in the shopping trolley so you don't have to keep coming back to it.

Actually Kroger does even better, they have the map drawn up and on little booklets you can get as you enter. So that you don't have to keep going back tot he map to know where to go.

@Harutsedo

You obviously talk out of your ass. I was a stock manager for Kroger (that's a grocery store) for 3 years.

I think most stores don't do this because they want you to walk through the whole store looking at things.

This is a hundred times better though.

I will just curl up in a ball and weep like a child until someone comes up and offers their assistance.

Um... Pretty much looks like the layout of any grocery store. You need a map? Wow.

First of all, if you need a map to navigate the grocery store, I will never get into a vehicle with you. Second, they want people to wander around looking for things. That way, people SEE more things that they could potentially buy.
