@ boredfrank: Good idea, but I wouldn't want to give one cent in royalties to that craptastic band.

That'll clear london town good n proper :) As far as rebuilding goes; sadly alot of insurance policies rule out riots in their contract as a reason for damage to property along with 'acts of god'. Many peoples livelihoods are indeed in tatters. And heard everywhere is the sound of 'no win no fee' lawers rubbing their paws together for if the police have to use force. Its a pooe state of affairs, make no mistake. |

What disgusts me the most is that the fires have all been in small family or one man businesses, most of which have been there for years and years. All of the big chain stores can be up in business again by next week, insurance can replace everything and repair damages. Some people have lost everything, and a lot of the older buildings had flats above. That's people made homeless, by children. This is why the police aren't using water cannon or baton rounds or rubber bullets, alot of them are just kids, teenagers. Croydon will never be the same again. |

I've been discussing it with people I know. Checked out BBC. SO many different stories views reasons as to why it started etc. Shiz has gotten pretty crazy. I'm near Preston NE England...Getting kinda edgy as it's hit Manchester now so I hear. |

@BoredFrank: that is an approach I can definitely get behind. I do want the Met to take a tougher approach, but I reckon the reason they are apprehensive about being too tough is due to incidents in the past, and the risk of it escalating. Don't think the unwillingness to shoot Rioters equals a respect for them, I see them as nothing more than scum. |

jtrebowski -- We obviously see the 'crowds' as two different entities. You, I think, see disadvantaged youth expressing their pent-up rage over a social system gone bad.

Wow, you people show an inordinate amount of concern for the well-being of arsonists and looters. You must be much better people than I. Are you planning a big block party for the looters, maybe offering them foot massages, facials, perhaps an Introduction to Yoga class? Good for you!
I do hope the rioters recognize your innate goodness and many fine qualities, should you find yourself surrounded by them on a street someday. But I wouldn't bet on it.

While I certainly disagree with firing live rounds into random crowds (I didn't know Ghadaffi posted here) something drastic needs to be done. These people are harming other completely innocent people in the name of protesting harming of a (allegedly armed) man. Harming others isn't a very good show of protest to harming others... |
