If the freedom of religion, guaranteed to us by law in theory, can ever rise in practice under the overbearing inquisition of public opinion, then and only then will truth, prevail over fanaticism

If you are not capable to grasp the fact that you have complete control of your own destiny you do not deserve the freedom that you gain from not believing in religion.

Feminism is simply the belief that men and women are equal

Since that is one of the most obvious political lies of recorded history, you are wrong. Any conclusions or arguments you make stemming from that lie are wrong.

The thing that really annoys be about feminism isn't that it's sexist, though feminism is sexist and it annoys me a lot for that reason.

It isn't that it's hypocritical, although feminism is hypocritical apart from the extremists who are honest about their sexism and it annoys me a lot for that reason.

What really annoys me about feminism is the damage it has done and continues to do to sexual equality by infiltrating and corrupting it, turning it into a mockery of itself.

I get that you are opposed to sexual equality.

I get that attacking it with lies and corruption is far more effective for you than honestly opposing it.

I get it. I don't like it.

Sorry @Coffeekoneko but i have to disagree. Actually women don't want to be equal with men, they just want to say they are, then when something unpleasant comes up (MOWING THE LAWN) they have a man do it.

Really what women want is equal pay which I have to disagree with. Your pay should be based on merit. Whoever does a better job, man or woman, should be paid more, and whoever does a worse job, man or woman, should be paid less.

Oh certainly, not all women are feminists. Women like Michele Bachmann, who believe that it is a woman's duty to obey their fathers and then their husbands are not feminists. They are also anti-women. Feminism is simply the belief that men and women are equal, so if you have a problem with feminism then you have a problem with that principle and with women.

One of my favorite quotations on feminism that I think summarizes it nicely is, "Feminism is the radical notion that women are people."

do people think that ending religion would end war and hate. if there were no religion we would war over the colour of skin. if we were all the same colour skin we would war over the colour of our eyes. if we all had the same eye colour we would war over hair colour. if we all had the same hair colour we would war over what side it was parted at. its what we do

We need to stop putting labels on our beliefs and lack of belief in some cases because all religion does as well as lack of religion is create differences among us that are just not necessary. These differences cause child like disagreements and start pointless arguments, it's like when you found out santa (or whatever other figure your belief depicts) wasn't real from one of your friends in the 3rd grade, it all made sense and life kept going on as normal. Religion needs to go as well as all the labels it in stows including atheism. There are bigger more relevant issues in this world right now then religion.

Meh, same can be said of any group, it just sounds better when using it on religion.

"If you could reason with evolutionists, there would be no evolutionists."
From my personal experience my statement is true, they are harder to talk to than any religious person I've ever met.

"Wait now. Let's not give this guy credit for the quote. It was the script writer who came up with it."

Really? I thought that the fictional character came up with it all by himself.

Sachi001 - "Wait now. Let's not give this guy credit for the quote. It was the script writer who came up with it."

Yeah. Oprah became a billionaire taking credit for a team of writers writing the stupidest dialogue on TV. Genius, really.

Cajun: Why are you bringing up the faults of MLK Jr. to a discussion of the fictional character of 'House' ?

Are you really going to compare the two that way ?

Despite his womanizing MLK Jr. was a hell of a lot better man, in real life, than the fictional character of 'House' in more ways than I can count.

No real life person is perfect, and any doctor that would attempt to imitate 'House' would have their medical license revoked, been sued for malpractice and be locked away in prison.

Victim: "I might as well be a feminist."

What the hell is that supposed to mean? You got a problem with women?

"feminist" and "women" don't mean the same thing, any more than, for example, "whitist" and "white people" mean the same thing.

If you're not a bigot, don't label yourself as one. If you chose to label yourself as a bigot, expect people to think you are one.

Your choice.

...and MLK Jr. was big time womanizer. That somehow makes their points less valid?

...You know what? Forget it. Just... just forget it.

A belief in God is just that, a belief. Its just the opposite of atheism which is absence of belief in a higher power. I suppose this is aimed more at Creationists (while religious, I am not one), or Muslims who's fanatical action is often intrusive, or deadly. Its a fictitious character, ergo its stupid to even feel offended or empowered by such a statement.

"But LuckyDave, it was written by a real person!"
Yeah, writers put down to paper many things they themselves don't believe to fit a character. I don't just play hockey you know.

Dr. House is strongly anti-religion, its just part of his character, and such a belief justifies his ability to treat everyone like they are idiots and not feel bad about it, while at the same time saving lives. He's like a living Yin Yang. House is pretty cool, but to quote a TV character and feel badass because he agrees with you is just silly.

I'm with Patch' on this one. religion=superstition and we'd all be better off without it. And I do have to admit I feel somewhat superior for having the blinders of religion removed (enlightened as it were).

"Athiests rule

that is all"
I'm pretty sure the majority of world leaders claim to be religious in some way. Theists rule.

I've seen this one thousand times, but I love House, and I love this quote, so I'm totally OK with seeing again here.

And further, this kind of 'attack' if it is one at all, you religious readers need to remember is directed at the 'bad apples' of your group. So unless you're one of the "god hates f@gs, death to islam, convert the world by force" bad apples, you have nothing to complain about.

For the record I take the position that I'm fine with people having religious beliefs, to the limit of when they start trying to make others believe it, or take away other peoples' rights to satisfy their religious laws. Keep it in your house and church and nobody will beef with you.

You have to admit, if you can be reasoned with, that the little 'war' between religious and non-religious is entirely spurred on by the religious extremists that keep pushing the line. Nobody could imagine a world where atheists protest outside a random church that really and truly minds it's own business.. If you can't accept that, see the house quote above.
