Tuesday, July 12, 2011 5:58:37 PM my only nitpick is that he says "nicht" instead of "Nichts" ('not' instead of 'nothing') but its still vaginal (yes i speak german) |

Saturday, July 09, 2011 3:30:17 PM K, so the correct translation of this song is from "Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt" which means "you have asked me and I have said nothing" (ie a marriage proposal) |

Saturday, July 09, 2011 10:09:07 AM Ah, had to correct myself. The entire line of the song is " Du hast mich gefragt, and ich hab nitch gesagt " which in the improper translation SOMEHOW ended up being You hate me to say and I did not obey. Properly done it should be something like, You have asked me and I didnt say. Which corrects my statement that the verb say is not anywhere in there.. |

Saturday, July 09, 2011 9:17:33 AM if you learned a little more, you'd realize that that was EXACTLY what i meant without actually stating it. Second, Rammstein didnt CHOOSE to translate it that way. The record company FORCED them to do 3 improperly translated english songs for the album. Engel wasn't too miserably translated. Stripped was a joke song, and Du hast was done by a third grader. They then fired the company after the release. You should also expand into the whole phrase, du hast mich gefragt. Where ge- mixed with any verb and the usage of "hast" turns it automatically past tense showing the play on words.. Now in the english version they somehow get the phrase, you hate me to say, where the verb for "say" is not mentioned anywhere in the song.

Saturday, July 09, 2011 4:32:05 AM Part-English version of Du Hast. And this acapella was good, apart from the guy doing the synthesiser part at the end. But yeah, I really liked it. |

Saturday, July 09, 2011 4:30:36 AM And anyone that thinks this songs translation is you hate me. needs to die, and learn german. If you learnt a little more, you'd know that "hast", you have, and "hasst", you hate, are homophones. The whole point is that it's a play on words in German, and translating it back to English doesn't preserve the pun. So in the part-English recording, Rammstein chose to translate it as "hate" rather than "have". |
