Monday, July 04, 2011 10:08:18 AM >>>You obviously have no idea what "art" means when it comes to action movies. Don't you enjoy movies such as Terminator 2? Art in its purest form.<<< Yeah, I get it. Explosions that cause bon ers, simple plot, cheezy lines, stock footage. You obviously have no idea what 'art' really means. These movies are meant to excite the senses and they do. Adding CGI to existing footage is just as valid as shooting new footage and adding CGI to it, just animation over film and it does not decrease the enjoyment of what you are watching. Still action packed and still makes your heart race. Reusing old crap has been a staple in the art business since it began. |

Sunday, July 03, 2011 8:33:07 PM Did you want to see this movie now or in another year or 2 when filming all original shots had finally ended? This takes place in animation and movies ALL the time because if it didn't the time and cost would involved with production would be no less than triple what they are right now. This even happens in the game industry where special effects or backgrounds are reused even music. |

Sunday, July 03, 2011 5:55:57 AM >>>This statement right here beats out ANYONE defending this practice. What happened to the "Art" of movie making<<<< I agree, the Decepticons vs the Transformers are obviously an analogy to the post nuclear hysterics of the cold war brought to life and the fact Michael Bay chose the color yellow for the robot car thing that interfaces with the humans is an obvious allusion to the Third Chakra Manipura, which among other things is the source of Prana, or vital life to the body and by extention the human race. Whoops, sorry, this is not high art. Quentin Tarantino made a career of re-using scenes, lines, and ideas from other movies. Salvador Dali reused his melted clocks in several paintings. Same with rhino horns and Gala. Bet I could find some Renissance examples if I cared enough. |

Sunday, July 03, 2011 1:05:42 AM @Gerry1of1- let me finish that sentence- The Island was a good movie until it devolved into an absurd, protracted chase scene. |

Sunday, July 03, 2011 12:44:59 AM @Steelgrid If it's so hard to make it as a 3d animator then choose a new profession. Don't blame the employer because they want to save money, it's a business, not a charity. |

Saturday, July 02, 2011 5:49:29 PM "The reason I have a problem with this crap is that they seem to treat movies as products that must be manufactured." This statement right here beats out ANYONE defending this practice. What happened to the "Art" of movie making. Where telling the story wasnt enough. Yeah, i understand its stock footage, yeah I understand it still made a great movie.....yeah I bet it kept a couple of skilled 3d animators out of work too.......its hard enough to get a job doing that type of work, no we are outsourcing it too stock footage? Makes me glad I make simulators and not movies. |

Saturday, July 02, 2011 5:45:20 PM Personally, if I had sweet CGI like that kicking around, I'd reuse it too. It's bloody expensive to make small scenes like, saving 50-100 grand or more is something to think about. |

Saturday, July 02, 2011 5:41:27 PM It's the same highway set they built in Australia for the Matrix I believe. Maybe they can shed some light from down under. Hollywood uses them you know. |
