Honestly get over being called British. Especially you Scots and your William Wallce love affair.
If you wanted to be *really* picky, you could argue that the Scots technically aren't British. 'Britain' is from the Roman province of Britannia, which didn't include Scotland. The Scots were still in Ireland at that time.
The William Wallace thing is for people ignorant enough to think that Braveheart is history (the only thing that's true in that film is that Wallace was executed by the English for treason).
You too Irish and Welsh.
Calling the Irish British is just plain wrong. It's been at least 8000 years since the two islands were one. |

Why don't you just break it down more.
Well, there's Wessex, Sussex, Mercia and the other 4 I can't remember off the top of my head, just for England alone. Or you could go for the earliest recorded breakdown, that of the tribal lands when the Romans invaded.
Shall the rest of the world call you Celts, Normans, Saxons, or Anglos? Should we add Germanic and Roman in there for good measure?
Norse too - a surprisingly big influence. It wasm't just viking raids. It's Angles, btw, not Anglos. |

WW1, well, the USA did come into that so late that it was over before most of the soldiers they sent got to the front.
WW2, though, was far from drat all. Granted, the USA charged the UK a staggering amount for help in WW2, but they did provide it (and the UK did pay for it, in spades). It was necessary help (which was why they charged the UK so much for it). The UK might well have gone down without it, which would have removed most of the resistance to the Nazis in most of the world. There were many countries involved, but the UK was underpinning them all. That would have left the Nazis with far more troops and resources to throw at the USSR, which might well have fallen.
Our side wasn't called the Allies just for propaganda. |
