markust: Comparing conservatives today with conservatives in the south 50 years ago is like comparing apples and oranges, and that's not too far a stretch since many apples are grown in the north and oranges are grown in the south.

There are liberals now just as racist as any 1960's southern democrat. They see the way to handle the blacks and hispanics is to keep them poor on welfare, medicare, and food stamps, pump them up for votes by promising them more of the same and keep them clueless as to the modern-day slavery they remain in.

The black upper and middle classes in America are growing and have realized their brothers are enslaved by entitlements from the government in exchange for votes for liberal democrats. That is why more and more blacks are becoming republicans, and are being welcomed to participate in the party to help educate and free their brethren from the disproportionate cycle of welfare, drugs, crime, and prison they are in.

In 1948 the conservative portion of the Southern Democratic party formed the States Rights Democratic Party (Dixiecrats). The conservative Dixiecrats opposed racial integration and wanted to retain Jim Crow laws and white supremacy. Strom Thurmond was the most famous Dixiecrat and a huge racist. The Dixiecrat party by their very creation clearly shows that the conservatives in the south were way more racist. Not saying the liberals weren't but the scale tips heavily towards the conservatives when it comes to racism in the old south.

This is from the Conservapedia link below:

"In the century after Reconstruction ended in 1877, the white South identified with the Democratic Party. The Democrats' lock on power was so strong, the region was called the "Solid South."

"Before 1964, the southern Democrats saw their party as the defender of the southern way of life, which included a respect for states' rights and an appreciation for traditional southern values. They repeatedly warned against the aggressive designs of Northern liberals and Republicans, as well as the civil rights activists they denounced as "outside agitators." Thus there was a serious barrier to becoming a Republican."

CrakrJak: "The 'south' political shift in the recent last 4 decades, has nothing to do with racism and more to do with the rejection of liberal ideology. That shift geographically hasn't changed the fact that the democrat party supported racism, Jim Crow laws, and slavery in it's past."

The Democratic party that supported racism, Jim Crow laws and slavery consisted of liberals and conservatives. It wasn't a party that was racist. It was the majority of the white South. Do you honestly think the white South would remain in the Republican party of Lincoln? The only people in the South who associated with the Republican party during this time were blacks and very liberal people. This is why Martin Luther King was Republican. He would have switched to the Democratic party if he had lived. Have you forgotten your junior high history or are you just lying to get a rise out of people?

Isn't this video one giant troll? (somewhat successful it seems)
The parties shift over time, both in name and ideology which then varies from location to location.

Just because someone calling themselves republican or democrat claim to be X doesn't mean they believe in X. If the political scene changes, the response from the politician will as well.

How many times have we seen a politician deny something they said on video?

So instead of painting our bodies in the colors of our favorite team in an attempt to argue which team is slightly less racist... why not accept that these teams have bigger problems beyond their talking points and that WE THE PEOPLE need to talk to EACH OTHER regardless of label. Both liberals and conservatives have GOOD POINTS that will work differently in different areas. To think one is "right" is absolute foolishness.

I digress now so that you may all continue poking each other with sticks and thinking up be

i should probably add that I am not trying to show that conservatives are racist. I am trying to point out the accurate history that the white south pretty much all moved to the Democratic party because of Lincoln. And the white south stayed there for almost 100 years. The only people that associated with the Republican party in the south during this time were the blacks and very very liberal white people. Anyone who uses the south during this time to "prove" that democrats are racist is a liar.

CrakrJak, please spend 2 minutes reading this. It is from a conservative web site: Conservapedia.com/Republican. Halfway down the page read Realignment: The South Becomes Republican. It's only 5 paragraphs long. You will see that you have been lied to.

On July 30, 1866, the Democratic government in New Orleans ordered a raid on a racially integrated meeting of the Republican Party. Results: 40 people killed and 150 injured. You can bet your sweet ass that this won't ever be mentioned during Black History Month!

Guess who else is rarely ever mentioned during Black History Month ?

These proud black republicans, and many others.

@DoctorSlutba: Opinions differ, but in my opinion, it's not. The "material" is presented a bit flippantly, but the narrator is trying to change minds.

For years, the Republican leadership has succeeded in getting millions of White lower middle-class Americans to vote against their own interests and pull the Republican lever. Now, hoping against hope, they're trying to pull off the same thing with African Americans.

@5Cats: You do know it's the DemocratIC party, right? I wouldn't mention this except for your title for the link and for the fact that the narrator consistently, and deliberately, says the "Democrat" party. All of the Republican mouthpieces (Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, et al.) have been doing this for years now, and it's a practice that's both stupid and annoying.

Ooo, I C @Spider_sol! If it's a GOOD thing then the Democrats did it! Regardless of Republicans, you know, actually doing it.
And if it's a BAD thing the Republicans did it! Even if it was Clinton, or Kennedy or Obama who, you know, actually did it.

Have you been talking to @madest? He thinks EXACTLY like that too!

Examples:
Ron Reagan cuts taxes for the poor: Democrats did it!
Bill Clinton cuts welfare rates: Republicans are to blame!
Obama mentions SIX times 'tax cuts for corporate jets' which HE himself signed: Blame the Republicans!

Wow! I guess Democrats are perfect after all!

First 3:30 of video = democrats did bad things to blacks in the past.

Last :30 seconds = "we weren't even born during slavery days" and "most of us weren't around for jim crowe" -> but wait, wasn't that the entire reasoning AGAINST dems? and now you are saying ignore it because we eren't alive then?

Or how about how all of the "good things" republicans did in the past were actually PROGRESSIVE, LIBERAL (read: Democrat) ideas?

To quote CrakrJak:

"Can you tell me which president implemented school desegregation in the south ?

Can you tell me which president implemented the Philadelphia Plan, the first significant federal affirmative action program in 1970 ?

Can you tell me which president signed the bill that made Dr. MLK Jr Day a national holiday ?

Can you tell me which president appointed the first woman to the supreme court?"

And I would add - can you tell me which supreme court justices voted to rule in FAVOR of upholding integration in Brown vs. Board of Education? The republican or democrat seats?

Is he still lying about everything he says? I didn't hear one outright falsehood (sure, Lincoln didn't live in the Parthenon but I think we know how to tell the difference there). Grasping for straws much? Or rather grasping at cotton for your still southern Democrat masters? I'd recommend taking it out of your ears every once in awhile.

The first part is the how the link will read in your post. That apparently can only be 40 characters. After you hit OK there is a second part where you put the actual link in. Hope that works.

markust123 "Click on link. It will ask you first the text you want shown for the link. Then you hit OK and then put in the link;".

I did that but it said: "ERROR: I'm sorry, you cannot post words longer than 40 characters in length. Posting long words is bad for the formatting of the forums."
Oh well, thanks for trying. Good link, btw

I'm going to be called a liar. I already have been. Check the facts on a conservative web site: Conservapedia.com/Republican. Halfway down the page read Realignment: The South Becomes Republican. It's only 5 paragraphs long and well worth the read.
