Friday, July 01, 2011 11:13:22 AM Here's a semi-off topic thought, but this video inspired it. You know what I really, truly hate about politicians? It's that they're trained to deal with all of this bureaucracy and legal procedure.. but not trained in anything else. Basically, they spend their entire lives learning how to work in the government, and yet they know nothing about the issues they're working with. Which leads to uninformed decisions. |

Friday, July 01, 2011 5:56:20 AM That's the thing about PACs. You can use the funds you collect to run ads in favor or against any candidate or issue you want, with or without the candidates approval. Stephen Colbert won't be running for president. |

Friday, July 01, 2011 12:15:19 AM what i don't get is is this PAC designed to give Colbert funds for a campaign of his own? Or is it going to be funds for Colbert to divy out to other candidates? Who's gonna get the money of the PAC? |

Thursday, June 30, 2011 5:22:08 PM Viacom to my knowledge hasn't contributed to America's decline. Americans for Prosperity has. Besides the FEC ruled that this is Stephen Colbert's PAC (the 114th Super PAC btw). And only he alone can promote it. Viacom was sidelined so I'm not worried. Stephen Colbert is smart as a fox and his PAC will make a statement. |

Thursday, June 30, 2011 3:12:39 PM @madest.... Of course knowing is always best. But, just like our News, I need to consider the source as to their motivation. I am sick of hyper partisans that claim to be acting for the good of all. Especially when it gives them ratings, readers and ultimately money in their pockets. As I remember Colbert originally played a "character" he created, to mimick and mock Bill O'Reilly? Does he now do what he does as a philanthropist?

Thursday, June 30, 2011 2:42:17 PM @OldOllie An ad is speech but the money that goes into isn't. Therefore the latter can be regulated. Also what else isn't free speech: Perjury Inciting chaos |

Thursday, June 30, 2011 2:30:22 PM Actually all the Citizens United decision did was remove the ban on political broadcasts funded by third parties (corporations if you must) being made within 30 days of primaries and 60 days of the general election. There is still a limit on how much the third parties can contribute. |

Thursday, June 30, 2011 2:19:56 PM @madest That's just one judge who admittably should've just sat out one case as far as your article reads. Other than that I don't see any direct link between Thomas and Citizens United. |

Thursday, June 30, 2011 1:55:18 PM If this doesn't point up the sheer folly of ALL campaign finance laws, I don't know what does or ever will. All of these laws are nothing more or less than incumbent job security programs. What part of "Congress shall make no law," don't these stupid bastards understand? |

Thursday, June 30, 2011 1:03:33 PM @ OutWest, Wouldn't you rather know who's behind the PAC than some shadowy billionaire that has politicians and supreme court judges in in his pocket and is actively working against your best interest? I know I would. |

He's making a satyrical comentary of the Supreme Courts poor decision that corporations can spend unlimited amounts of money on political ads with no accountability for truthful content. They're called Super PACs. And in the Colbert style, he's doing a really funny job of it! |
