Wednesday, June 29, 2011 11:07:34 AM I thought this was already implemented in America. I just get by with my socket-usb adapter. @madest it doesn't have to go somewhere because the data contact points and the power contact points are separate. |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 10:53:35 AM Not necessarily madest. I believe you are insinuating that the USB needs to be connected to a hard drive. The iPhone and iPad and such has an outlet to USB converter, which to my knowledge has no computer like qualities. The same goes to a product that GameStop sells, a universal DS charger, which charges DS's via USB. It too comes with a outlet to USB converter, albeit not as strong as the Apple one. There's also the PS2 which has USB ports but no hard drive. So I think it is possible, they just need to copy what Apple did for their chargers. |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 10:48:27 AM this would be really good if it was implemented every where around the globe, because it is universal you would never have to worry about charging a phone or a computer when traveling outside your home country |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 10:34:57 AM Great idea but those ports need to go somewhere. Some central computer location which would be limited in their distance from the computer I assume. There needs to be some hurdles crossed before these become standard and by then USB ports will probably be a thing of the past... |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 10:12:31 AM @ greenbasterd 2100mA. FWIW, USB 2.0 standard allows for a maximum draw of 500mA, 3.0 allows for 900mA. These USB type A receptacles are for power only. sauce |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 10:09:02 AM Reminds me of people who have ethernet cable running through the house, for peripherals like printers. Same deal here. You might think that's usb 3.0, because it's blue, but that's nonsense, since the cable is the same, it's just the controllers at the end that have been updated. ... on the other hand, all we see is the socket so for all we know, this person could have built their entire computer within the wall, and this is all that's exposed. |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 9:59:37 AM US plugs have 2 or 3 prongs, depending on what the appliance is. I'd rather have either over these ghastly enormous British things they stick in the wall. |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 9:48:25 AM "American plug sockets are funny, they look like faces. At least you finally have three pins on them now, those two pin things you had seemed archaic :/" At 42, I don't remember a time without them. I remember they weren't standard, but they've been around for as long as I can remember. |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 9:43:41 AM IceDragon: Really? I've seen lots of places in the US where it's still 2 prongs when I've been on holiday to the US (especially in Florida). But still. Yeah. They look funny. Hurr hurr. I wish ours had faces. They don't.
