Wednesday, June 29, 2011 5:46:01 PM Too bad carp are bottom feeders and taste like what they typically eat. I know in some areas they check for carp by putting an antenna charged by an on board gas generator into the water to 'charge' it momentarily . Most of the carp will jump out like the ones in the video. (They do this to get counts of this invasive species) Some places also set up dams to stop the spread of these fish seeing that when they get that big they tend to eat EVERYTHING else, (the trout, the salmon, the bass, ect... ) especially the ones we DO want to catch and eat. Cool video tho. |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 9:53:00 AM This one reminds me of that Sesame Street skit where Ernie and Bert are fishing and Ernie starts yelling "Here fishy fishy fishy!" and they all jump in the boat. |

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 6:06:20 AM These things are friggin'dangerous. From the ecosystems they ruin, to getting hit with one. They easily break noses and the larger ones have been known to crack ribs. I wouldn't mind eating one, though. Hell, I'd eat them all day if it meant restoring balance to the waterways they've invaded. They should start rounding up these bad boys and export them. |

Tuesday, June 28, 2011 9:55:36 PM I learned about these in environmental science. They are very bad and if they take over the great lakes it could destroy a lot of the ecosystem there. |

Tuesday, June 28, 2011 8:05:26 PM As someone who lives near the Illinois River (Spoon River is about 20 miles from me) those Asian Carp are not a joke. Those fish weigh in excess of 30lbs and start jumping as a response to the waters being churned up. Also I have been hit by one and believe me they HURT. People have been severely injured and even killed by this invasive species. |

Tuesday, June 28, 2011 5:30:41 PM @BiGpHiL It's pretty horrible what this species has done to these rivers and the people who make a living off of the previous inhabitants. It wouldn't be so bad if there were a better market for Carp. But people don't like to know they are eating it, I guess. I don't eat fish (because its nasty and gross and disgusting and gross and nasty, and gross) so I don't really see why it isn't in more restaurants. I've seen cooked carp, and I've seen cooked tilapia, I would take the carp any day. |
