"It's not a pretty world we live in right now" he says. Okay... so you are saying that something is wrong? Things the way they are now aren't working too well? THEN IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE. Deal wit' it.

Thanks for straightening that out.

I was wondering what the red name meant. So what are the green name people I see every once in a while?

I have a really weird feeling that CrakrJak and Angilion are the same person. Maybe he does this to get a rise out of everyone. If I am correct the insanity is that he argues with himself.

Markust, as one of the Secret Order of the Red Name (read: I'm a nerd admin who can see IP addresses), I can assure you they are different people. Unless this Angilion/Crakrjak character has the superhuman/alien ability to travel transatlantic in the space of minutes.

Besides, you'd have to be the hero of all schizos to think like Crakrjak and Angilion in the same sentence.

Relax dude, it's not a troll. People (of the same species, to boot) are genuinely that diametrically opposite in world views.

Yeah, CJ won't be back on this thread I'm guessing. It's amazing the almost Superman-esque speed at which he can transform into the two end-members of Christianity: from judgemental billboard-wearing, loudhailer-toting shoutist to meek and mild lamb.

Especially after being thoroughly smacked. Once again, well said Musuko.

And as this has now slipped to the second page, that will be it from me.

Until the next debate post rolls around, adieu.

"Twisting bible passages around is a sport atheists love to do."

We're novices at it compared to the Gordian Knots you true believers can twist those words into when it suits you.

@Angilion

"What if they were the same class, defined in law as being *exactly* the same?"

Seperate but equal is something any American should be familiar with from their own history. It's not a good concept.

"The UK took the pragmatic approach of avoiding the arguments over the word "marriage" by calling homosexual marriages "civil partnerships""

I agree, and am grateful for it. But be under no illusion: it's still an inequality. A necessary one, a stepping stone towards full equality, and a welcome step; but not the final end result just yet.

For the time being, I'm happy to be patient, so long as the progress stays in the right direction. Remember: whilst still seperate from marriage, it can still be revoked by an uglier future government, and that's the problem (one of many) with "seperate but equal".

@CrakrJak

"What gays want now is for churches, synagogues, mosques, etc... to accept your lifestyle as 'normal' and force them to marry gays."

No we don't. Where did you get this?

We just want to get married. Most of us don't care about what churches choose to do.

And those who do merely want the churches to be ALLOWED to marry them, not FORCED to marry them.

@CrakrJak

"You already have all the same freedoms, rights, privileges, and responsibilities. What you want are special privileges."

In regards to marriage, it's the right to marry the person you love, not the right to marry "someone of the opposite sex".

The fact that you completely overlook the LOVE portion of this equation says a lot about you, the person who flat out clams up whenever I ask whom do you love.

Angillion: the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah don't have even the vague suggestion that it might possibly have anything to do with homosexuality

As I referred to before, The men of sodom were offered virgin women and refused them in favor of trying to get "the new men". If that doesn't describe homosexual desire plainly enough to you then nothing will.

Then again you're an atheist and don't believe anything in the bible anyways. Twisting bible passages around is a sport atheists love to do. It still amazes me why atheists spend so much time fighting against something they don't believe, and treat it like it's a game.

Makes about as much sense as making a game out of bashing the tooth fairy or casper the ghost, It makes most of you look ridiculous.

Church attendance is at an all-time low and falling, atheism is increasing on par with scientific advancement, and people are being shown what religion is on an almost daily basis through modern media. Sh*t, people are getting smarter.

I know it's a cliché, but I've heard it said that science will fly you to the moon, religion will fly you into buildings. Of the 9-11 variety.

I would suggest that rather than try to debate these old-skoolers who hang their faith and entire world-view on Bronze-Age texts written in the late Neolithic period by goat-herders, they are all going to die off by old age anyway.

Let them go the way of the dinosaurs, in their own time.

Oh well Crakr's going to become part of small and shrinking minority of people against gay marriage anyway. No point debating with him.

Such is the inexorable march of human progress.

Terms like "Conservative" and "Liberal/Progressive" get bandied about like they're insults. Conservatives want to keep the old ways (conserve the system as it is), Progressives want to progress (by definition). Conservatives, and especially religious conservatives, will die out over time. They're dying anyway.

you know I thought you were straight, you even made that claim.

If you really think I did, feel free to point it out. You can't, of course, because it isn't true.

Yet you answer as if I knew you were gay.

No, I answered to point out that you wrongly assumed I was straight. It's that group identity and group politics thing again - anyone who doesn't conform must be one of the Other.

Enjoy your second class civil Partnerships.

You can "enjoy" your endless fighting for no purpose other than fighting.

I'll enjoy my equal rights. Unlike you, I don't regard equal rights as second class.

I'm done with you. You're a troll like CrakrJak and 5Cats.

Yes dear, that's why I spend so much time disagreeing with them. Obviously.

I don't have time for people like you.

I'm one of your approved group but I don't conform, so I es

Do you want to know why gay people want marriage? Because we are sick and tired of being told we are evil or sinners.

Speak for yourself. Many gay people want equal legal rights, not the power to force others to suppress their religious beliefs.

I get told I'm a sinner, blah blah blah, even by some theists who think I'm straight. I'm an athiest - evil sinner! Yeah, yeah, whatever. I've no interest in trying to force them to be silent, let alone express approval of something that goes against their religion. Why should I care what they think? I have no respect for them.

You could have had the rights already. What you're mainly after is fights, not rights, head to head against religion. If you win, you'll have to find something else to fight about. There will always be something to find. It's the group politics thing I refer to a few posts down.

Angilion, when I said "We just want the same rights that you take for granted." you know I thought you were straight, you even made that claim. Yet you answer as if I knew you were gay. We just want the same rights that you take for granted.

Obviously that isn't true in your case because you stated that wasn't enough.

Incidentally, why do you assume I'm straight? (free clue - I'm not).

"Since you've just stated that having exactly the same legal rights in every respect is being second class, are you going to stop saying that's what you're after?"

Don't twist my words. When gays are given a separate institute that is not equal. Do you want to know why gay people want marriage? Because we are sick and tired of being told we are evil or sinners. That there is something wrong with us. We are sick of people attacking us for something we have no control over. We just want the same rights that you take for granted.
