this crap happened in my stupid hometown. bottom line is:
YES- she was stupidly arrested and it was incorrect.
NO- you do not deserve anything special for that.
YES- you or i would have been arrested or at least deserved an ass-kicking if we broke out faggy pink rulers to prove our point, like the cops did.
NO- you do not get anything else but a "sorry you got arrested" for all of your troubles.
YES- cops made themselves look foolish after the fact.
NO- nobody should be suspended/fired.
and if you, EMILY GOOD, are STILL complaining about being arrested just be glad you didn't get called for dratING JURY DUTY.
also, thanks to i-a-b for killing it all the time. nice work. you are a valuable ally in my weekly info gathering. |

It should never be illegal to video tape a public servant performing their job, unless that job is of a classified nature, the video taping compromises national security, or compromises the safety of the public servant involved.
Time and time again cases of police misconduct are only brought to light due to video evidence captured by an outside bystander.
Police aren't evil, nor are they modern "brown shirts", but due to their accepted responsibilities to uphold the law, they must be accountable for their actions, and if those actions are criminal, or outside the boundaries of their authority, then this must be addressed.
A mistake by the arresting officer? Yes, absolutely. |

So let me just clarify to make sure I understand your position: you are saying that a t-shirt saying "food not bombs", which I understand to mean that we should be providing food for people instead of blowing them up with bombs, is a bad thing?

Seems like a joke to call America the land of the free. I feel that police oppression is rampant. You can't travel anywhere without having to deal with the distinct possibility of being searched. It's not just planes either. |

Police are taught to have control over any given situation.If one challenges that control by not compliance to any order,no matter how illegal that order is,you'd be a fool if you don't expect them to arrest you.
This woman says she studied peace and justice,along with community health.Is peace and justice a curriculum?I can see community health-barely.While she was within her rights,she comes off as something of an ditz. |

Those cops had no business telling her to go inside. Sure, she might have said somethings before filming, but ignore it and go on with your job. As the person in authority it is better to be the "bigger person", as they say.
I wish the right to film cops would come before the supreme court, if it hasn't already. I don't see how it could be any less constitutionally legit than speeding cameras... |

A deliberate scene? No this woman's actions are the culmination of years of police atrocities. its not about freedom of speech, its not about making a scene, its about exposing the "God-Complex" police officers that do nothing except piss people off. They arrest the wrong people, they plant evidence, they think everything should be private when you rare a PUBLIC SERVANT!!!!! Remember that? Its on the side of your goddamn car..."TO SERVE AND PROTECT" not to "Contain and Harass" which is EXACTLY why they arrested her and her supporters.
Good on her, we need to be taking the cops more anyway. They tape us all the time, time to turn the lens. |
