Tuesday, June 21, 2011 6:07:48 PM I do believe scientists discovered we all came from one pair of people located in Africa. You're probably thinking of the media reporting of "mitochondrial Eve" and "Y-chromosome Adam", which was the usual simplified garbled mess that the media makes of science. The researchers did find strong evidence for a single female ancestor common to all the people tested and a single male ancestor common to all the people tested, but those two probable common ancestors lived tens of thousands of years apart. They weren't a pair, nor were they the first humans (obviously, living so far apart in time). Humanity might all trace back to two people and there's plenty of evidence that humanity started in Africa, probably in the great rift valley and probably somewhere around what's now Kenya, but it's not known for sure. It would be a bit unclear anyway, e.g. how do you define the first human as opposed to their very slightly different parents? |

Also do believe that there is enough proof to the whole "were all related within six degrees of separation". None the less good job little girl, can't say I'd pour through that many names to find anything. |

Tuesday, June 21, 2011 5:13:37 AM This is not a surprise. There is only so much genetic material to go around. The only place on earth that is the most genetically diverse is Africa. |

Monday, June 20, 2011 9:47:46 PM 18th cousin? Seriously? Who give's a rats ass. That's about as significant as saying the person who commented below me and the person above me are my 16th cousins. Chances are that's likely, but who. gives. a. f*ck. |

Monday, June 20, 2011 7:13:22 PM A few things about this are fishy. Why would genealogists ignore half of their data? |
