Wow, I'm completely blown away by this. I've always wondered when hackers would be able to create mass scale physical effects rather than the "simply" technological shutdowns. Hopefully some people are pulling it apart to learn the best way to counteract it as well.

Why would code have reference to the any book?... that is stupid. But Stuxnet is really interesting, I heard about it last year but didn't realize the gravity of the situation

"Some have it that Israel is responsible because the virus code contains references to the Hebrew Bible. Others believe the U.S. was involved in the testing and development, . . . " because they want to be able to blame everything bad on the U.S.

@tedgp

Twenty?

It didnt turn up pressure on nuclear reactors, it made centrifuges spin faster than they should have, contaminating the fuel they were trying to make.

Source is easy enough to find on google, but go ahead and smug it up, bud.

one of the interesting things about stuxnet is the machines it was targeting is on a closed network, it found its way in via usb flashdrives that were used on home computers and at the facility.

I don't care. I have virus protection software on my computer that I downloaded. I'll activate it later...

I have the impression that these "Monster File" videos blow things out of proportion.

I wouldn't be worried. Nothing actually happened, and Iran, for some odd reason has their nuclear reactor controls online.

You keep that sh*t off the net, fools. No way to hack if it's not connected.

Releasing the virus then would require someone on the inside to do it, which would be no different from regular terrorism, treason, sabotage, etc.

Anyway, I find it surprising and unremarkable that Iran is amassing hackers. If I was a hacker in need of work, Iran would be the last place I'd go. For instance, in Iran, there is about one computer per 10 people.

@Ska_Machine if the fallout from some of the nuclear meltdowns doesn't get to you.

We're pretty much boned. This is what we get for still making fun of computer geeks all the time D:

Well, if we don't necessarily live near nuclear power plants, oil pipelines, and have the capabilities to live without power, we could survive the next world war?
Sounds good to me.

i dont understand why places like nuke plants and traffic systems must be connected to internet.. ok maybe i can understand traffic systems, but they could be on there own private network no? but nuke plants? why cant everything just be contained in that plant? why do they have to connect to internet? just so some jackass can monitor crap from his house?
