My brother is a cop, I've had friends who were cops. Most of the cops I've had dealings with have been extremely courteous, professional, even at times apologetic for having to cite me for doing something illegal.
But then I don't do stupid poo like ram people with my car while trying to flee arrest.
Cops are people, and like people they range from polite and professionl to corrupt dickheads with the vast majority of them sitting comfortably in the 'just trying to do their jobs and go home to their family'

This story reeks of bullpoo. Not saying the cops involved didn't do something wrong, but we're clearly not getting the whole story here.

@shappy, so true!
I live in the east bay, and the top drug officer was hella twisted, selling poo back to gang members etc., and now the case is going through the FED. I wonder what will happen...

I have met good cops and I have met bad cops. For the life of me, I cannot understand why it's at all an issue for us to record them doing what they do. If I hand someone a badge and a gun, you're damned right I'm going to keep pretty close tabs on that guy.

For those that are bashing cops...you should move to russia, or china :P You can see what real force and abuse of power is. GTFO of my country.

@shappy- there are good cops out there, and there are cops who, like most people, do both good and bad things. The US does have a pervasive problem with unchecked abuse of police power, but that doesn't mean that every cop is a villain. Life just isn't that black and white.

i have never met a police officer who had any inclination of helping anyone. police are nothing more than a government funded gang.

Sleep well Pigs, your day of atonement is coming! When the law is served by criminals, criminals will become the law.

I don't know nearly enough about what happened here to say that the police used excessive force, but cops need to be held accountable when they do. The idea that they should be allowed to do their jobs without citizen oversight is absurd. The wiretapping laws that cops use to prevent people from filming them in public places need to be reversed- in an age where anybody can potentially produce news by filming an event with their cellphone, freedom of the press should apply to EVERYONE. As long as you're not directly interfering with the cops' ability to do their job, you should be allowed to film them.

"american police force at it's best!"

I swear people will say whatever they can to try and make their worthless countries sound better. Yes, American police are the only ones who make mistakes.

It would seem to me that if the incident occurred in a public place, then the police would have no reasonable expectation of privacy.

We absolutely do not need to be ALLOWED to record cops. If a US citizen sees it, there is no law against that citizen recording it--we do not need f*cking PERMISSION. I'd much rather pass up the ass-kicking though, so, just don't let them catchya. But, if they DO catch you...keep tape rollin!

We are allowed to videotape police. The justice department is cracking down on departments who say otherwise.

There is a dangerous precedent of people not being able to video police in public. This is why we should be allowed to videotape them. They are public servants and aren't subject to the same rights as others when they are on duty.

do they know what the word legitimacy means?

'The Enlightenment-era British social theoretician John Locke said that political legitimacy derives from popular explicit and implicit consent: “The argument of the [Second"> Treatise is that the government is not legitimate unless it is carried on with the consent of the governed.”[2">'

vv @JoeYC police fired around 100 shots. Not a typo! A hundred!

Also I read that there was a gun INSIDE the car but the cops didn't know that or see it until after the shooting.
The guy was driving wrecklessly, sure, but is that a reason to shoot him one hundred times?
