Friday, May 27, 2011 8:52:38 PM My uncle's father was an illegal immigrant. He built a nice life and got a good career here in the US. He used to send a random amount of money in a blank envelope to the IRS every year around tax time, too, even though he wasn't legal, because he wanted to be a good citizen. |

Friday, May 27, 2011 8:01:53 AM @carmanut That is horrible. However, my point was not that people who immigrate here illegally are all horrible people, obviously they're not, but that people have always had a problem with immigrants in general and the majority of immigrants here today are here illegally so people are even more upset about it. I can see why you would not like having to wait so long to immigrate here, especially given the circumstances, but it doesn't change the fact that before you immigrated here this was someone else's country and they had the right to make you wait. In my opinion, people who are here illegally should have to weight (more than 5 years) to be able to vote, enjoy social security, medicare, or financial aide for college. They're haven't paid in, we have. Sorry! On the other hand they need to have some rights as soon as they get here, like the right not to be deported if they are found out when reporting a crime |

Friday, May 27, 2011 6:54:12 AM @NotTHATbored We need to have a drawn out process where people can become legalized slowly, earn rights to stay in the country and be able to have legal recourse right away, and then earn right to entitlements like social security, medicare, college aide, and the right to vote after they have paid in for years." I am a natualized citizen of the United States. I moved here from Kuwait. My family applied for a visa to come to the U.S. in 1984. We got it in 1998. Granted there was a war in the middle, but it still took 14 years for the U.S to let us in. I only got my citizenship after another 5 years, since that's how long it takes to get your citizenship. So. Wait 19 years to do it legally? Not really surprised that people dodge border patrols man... |

Thursday, May 26, 2011 8:07:18 PM what everyone ignores is that the issue with immagration is Not that people are immigrating from any particular place ... its the fact that people are immigrating without applying for residency and obtaining a visa. Every nation requires you to go through a Legal process before entering the country. Somehow it is now racist to want people to Obey The Law. |

Thursday, May 26, 2011 5:21:15 PM (continued) after they have paid in for years. I think then more people would be happy with the system. After all, in France it takes years to become a full french citizen and here you can do it in a couple of months if you get lucky! |

Thursday, May 26, 2011 5:18:37 PM @Heureux Did you ever stop to think that maybe the reason people are "ranting" about Mexicans "immigrating" today is because most immigrants are from Mexico and not somewhere else? Immigration has never been popular! People have hated the Irish, the Germans, the Italians, the Poles, etc, and that was when they came into the country legally. It may have less to do with race and more to do with the fact that immigration has always been unpopular and our system today sucks. The democrats want to see our American tax dollars spent on illegal immigrants from Mexico and the conservatives (supposedly) want to see everyone kicked out. Neither plan is practical or good for the average American. We need to have a drawn out process where people can become legalized slowly, earn rights to stay in the country and be able to have legal recourse right away, and then earn right to entitlements like social security, medicare, college aide, and the right to vote af |

Thursday, May 26, 2011 4:46:55 PM "and utterly drating retarded. " Any argument that relies entirely on calling some variation of 'stupid' is worthless and the sign of both intellectual immaturity and ignorance. The reality is that immigration laws in the U.S. have generally been overtly racist, with severe restriction placed on people based on their race, ethnicity or country of origin. This is historical fact. The current ranting from conservatives about immigration focuses almost entirely on people of a particular ethnicity, making it racist in purpose. "but I hate ignorance, but only the type of ignorance that the person responsible will refuse to be corrected." So you hate yourself, even as you recognize your own shortcoming for what it is. |

Thursday, May 26, 2011 3:11:41 PM How is immigration limits racist. It may be about any form of any nationality but the assumption it is against a certain people is racist and utterly drating retarded. Sorry for that little outburst, but I hate ignorance, but only the type of ignorance that the person responsible will refuse to be corrected. |
