It's not hard to grasp people...when a baby is formed in the womb, gender is formed it two totally separate processes: first, the physical gender is decided simply by which genitals ultimately form. This process happens completely separate from the second process, which is the mental, brain-based gender. This gender process entails what gender the forming infant will "feel" itself to be. In a transgender person, these processes do not agree with one another, which causes the person, as they grow up, to be well aware of what their genitals say their gender is, but being told by their own brain that their genitals are not the right ones, leading many people who are unable to afford gender reassignment surgery to even mutilate their own genitals to be the gender they feel they should be. zombunny, ukulelemike's comparison of transgendered people to rapists and pedophiles is not only nonsensical, it is hate speech.
But as a middle-aged male, ukulelemike is right in the key demographic of both rapists and pedophiles.
The predominant evidence is that neither rape nor pedophilia are 'how someone is born'. But that is not the key sickness in ukulelemike's argument. Rape is abusive and harmful, it is the coerced violation of someone's authority over their own body, and the pedophilia ukulelemike thinks about sooooo much, is a form of rape.
Being transgendered is harmless, but rape is intrinsically harmful, and ukulelemike is apparently unable to tell the difference.
He should not be allowed to be alone with anyone, under any circumstances. |

I'm with Zombunny here... And there's also the idea that rapists and pedophiles are BORN that way as opposed to being created by factors in their upbringing.
Transgender people are genuinely born in the wrong skin. The presenet with all the same brain patterns and thought processes of the opposite sex, but they possess the wrong physical body. The surgery and the hormone therapy are routes to put them in the correct context.
Gender IS tangible... Its not a difficult concept to grasp if you let yourself grasp it. We as humans have the free will (thanks to science) to be whatever we want to be. If someone presents as female psychologically but has a male body. its a fairly simple process to alter their physical form to match their psychological outlook.
I saw a friend from high school go through it. Senior year we shared a locker in gym class. 10 years later I escorted her to the class reunion. She was probably the best looking girl there |

Otherwise, we'd best stop judging pedophiles and rapists so bad, because its just how they're born, and we should accept them for who they are, for what makes them comfortable in their skin-or somebody else's, if that's what they prefer. |

This whole gender identity thing is stupid at its core. You can color your brown hair red, but you're still a brunette, no matter what. If you're born white, you can use melanin, or shoe polish, and change your speech, but you'll never be black. And you can be born a man, have your member cut off, take estrogen therapy and have implants put in your chest and hips, but you're still male. It's all cosmetic. There are some things that are fundamental and you can't change, no matter how hard you try. |

I usually define myself as pretty liberal and truly feel everyone should be the person they want to be. I believe we only get one life and each individual should do what makes them happy...
That being said, this still creeps me out and I don't like that I don't like it... But I don't. This disgusts me and I want nothing to do with it... The fact I know he/she exists bothers me...
And I don't know why |

You can't expect everyone to understand the difficult concept (note: sarcasm) that gender is just as much psychological as it is physical... God forbid someone genuinely have it in their mind that were born with the wrong physical gender and want to take the steps to change it. People cant wrap their heads around the idea that we as humans have those kind of choices... In their eyes, she will NEVER be female because she wasnt born one. |
