@ qwyrxian: I have no qualms with your argument other than the fact you are using Wikipedia as your definitive source.

Oh and to everyone saying portuguese politicians are terrible, you're totally right.
the other day i accidently watched the news and i thought i was watching a comedy show. It was supposed to be a debate but they just kept shouting and interrupting each other, the moderator kept repeating herself and they just didn't listen. I'm not kidding. It's sad that i'm not exagerating.

Before you start referring to yourself as portuguese or representing the portuguese, learn how to pronounce "pastel de nata", "Cascais", "Estoril" and "Mourinho" -.-
I know most portuguese people suck at speaking english but i'm sure they could've found someone...
Also, this should've been proof read...

All that aside. Pretty cool. Some of that stuff i had never heard about and i live there. Hell i didn't even know we were asking for help.

>>And what does any of this have to do with the fact that Portugal seems to be entirely incapable of running itself as a country?

Well it clearly demonstrates some form of conceit or outright snobbery. So they make a video of some bygone glory to whistle past their economic graveyard. You will probably see a similar video from us in a few months when we default on our own debts and our economy goes in the hole. We'll have videos of us going to the moon back in the 1960's, old atomic stuff, Elvis - something like that. Tired crusty old conservitards will wave the flag in the dimming light of our fiscal power.

- A lot of people from Portugal have left Portugal
- Portugal has been overrun a lot of times by other armies
- "Portugal has more land area than Denmark..."
True - if you don't count Greenland as land area... But it sounded good in the video though :p
- Portugal has never won the Eurovision Song Contest

- And by the way - a long time ago Portugal helped out Finnland in times of hunger, so it's only fair that Finnland (the very economically independant country) chip something in to save Portugal from their own banks drating up Portugals economy. The party is over - send the bill to Finnland.

Is this a joke? Is Portugal trying to bash itself? Or is this some weird cry out for help?
"Help us. We so confused. We make weird Portugal/World-bashing movie. Send moneys. KTHXBYE!"

And at least 2 of these are wrong; both claims about Japan caught my eye--arigato is fully Japanese (see "List of Japanese terms mistaken for gairaigo" on Wikipedia), and tempura came to Japan from Spain, not Portugal (see "Tempura" on Wikipedia). This makes me doubt much of the rest of this...blech.

@Jamie76: You seem to have rather misunderstood his point, I believe. He was pointing out how silly such a statement is. Furthermore, from your statement I understand you're quite upset about it all but claiming a thing as you saved our arses etc. is equally insulting and a rather simplisitc view of how events went down. You're bashing someone for having a simplistic or 'wrong' view while using exactly the same flaw yourself.

Old news travel slow.. And the real question I think everyone should be asking now is why didn't my pic of that Lionel Ritchie poster never get published? I know that it wasn't the greatest thing ever, but it was at least as entertaining as this. Was it because of my lame description? I know it was lame, but I was (and still am) new and couldn't come up with anything better. Why IAB mods, why? WHY?
Glad to get that off my chest :)

Interesting idea...so what you are saying is that at some time the Europeans came over there and wiped out the Americans Indians so that "your spawn" (which is total BS to start with) could take over a land that was not theirs to start with...I believe that is called GENOCIDE and you seem pretty proud of that fact.

Now, here is the differnce between what happened in WWI and WWII and your genocide of the American Indaians (which I happen to be 100%), WE SAVED your dumbasses TWICE, from a country you TWICE failed to stop from taking over Europe. While, YOUR GENOCIDE of the American Indians was pretty much par for the course for your lot, considering your country and most other European countries had pretty much done the same damn thing ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Thanks to your little area of the world, the rest of us (non-white people) got to experience a world were our lands, our culture, our ways of life meant nothing at all and instead were

Interesting, but some of those are kind of dickish. Yay for colonialism?

First country to abolish the death penalty. Meh, tell me you are the first country to get rid of crimes that deserve the death penalty and I'll be impressed.

I love when Europeans brag about the empires they had in the 15th century.

Americans are equally obsessed with their own history. It's just that, being our fairly recent spawn, you have a lot less of it.

How many times do we hear the rather puerile "if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking German"?
(To which the obvious rejoinder is, "if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking Cherokee".)

this is another reason why America is so f*cking stupid. Portugal is not a province of Spain.

i bet out of the 60% that think that are either black or mexican who never pass the 9th grade, which is about 90% of them

James Bond was based on a rela-life Canadian, born in Winnipeg Sir William Samuel Stephenson the man called Intrepid!

I like Finland a lot! But Portugal is OK. My co-worker is a 'porkchop' and she's nice
