Tuesday, May 24, 2011 3:30:31 PM i agree, vinnieadler, i feel really bad for the kids. did you see how disparaged they looked on the video? their parents just giving them this hatred then setting them up to be mocked... it's really not fair to those poor things, and it made me really sad. the rest of this video is genius, she did a good thing. |

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 10:03:58 AM @vinnieadler: Some of them do escape. Some of the families that are members of WBC don't home school past 8th grade, so they go to a local high school, mostly to prep for college. The ones who turn out to be decent human beings generally leave home for college and never return. I know of one or two that moved out as soon as they were 18. @IceDragon77: They're more of a cult than anything else. Sadly, they're a cult of lawyers and law school graduates, which lets them step right up to the line without going over. |

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 9:58:06 AM As someone who lives in Topeka, KS (where WBC is located) and has seen them about for years, I've noticed lately that the only time I see/hear about them is on the Internet. Usually here, actually. They've nearly given up picketing anything (in town) except for something like Lisa Lampanelli, where it's more likely for people from out of town to be around to hear their "message". Frankly, we just ignore them. We've had to deal with them and their signs for nearly 20 years now. Which is probably one reason they go out of town so much now. (And only when the local police "guarantee" their safety) |

Monday, May 23, 2011 10:13:10 PM Something I think about every time I see the WBC in anything is this: The WBC is so absurdly f'd up and trolly that it's insane to think that they think they are going to win anyone over to their espoused viewpoints via their protests. But it's not insane to think that a relative small group of people, if they had the right disposition and strong psyches, could antagonize a populace into becoming politically active around certain issues by opposing a viewpoint regarding those issues in an absurdly extreme way. Basically, what if the WBC is just a massive reverse psychology campaign, a juvenalian satire of the deed? Makes me want to take up preaching, in all truth. |

Monday, May 23, 2011 5:53:13 PM ...and here I thought she was going to spend an hour reminding everybody how she likes to bang black dudes and pretend that constitutes a standup routine. Secondly, there's no way to win with those people. Shouting back at them just gives them the attention they crave. Hell, one of them was holding up a sign that said "GOD HATES MOCKERS." Really? You don't even know what your God wants anymore, and I don't think you care. Her donations based on their attendance was a decent comeback...but more than anything these people need to be ignored. |

Monday, May 23, 2011 4:47:59 PM @IceDragon77, I couldn't agree with you more. Jesus wasn't about protests and hating. The guy had dinner with prostitutes and tax collectors. I honestly doubt people from the WBC would do the same. |

Monday, May 23, 2011 4:45:42 PM I like how two of the WBC protesters were texting and looked completely uninterested. Props/internets/gold stars/etc. to Lisa for turning this situation into something positive. More people should be following her example. |
