Friday, May 20, 2011 4:32:53 AM "No Fault of the OP (cuz the article is wrong) but these are not dams, they are levees." A levee is just one type of dam, so the article is absolutely correct. Read the very first sentence in this artical. What Is A Levee An misinformed critic is about the most annoying thing on the planet. Get an education. |

Thursday, May 19, 2011 11:36:49 PM I still think a cofferdam would be cheaper and take less time to build. |

Thursday, May 19, 2011 4:17:35 PM I feel bad for that person that tried and failed I hope they weren't there at the time. It looks to me as though the failure wasn't that the water rose above the levee (quite slow, therefore time to escape) but that it burst the levee in the bottom left corner (would flood the interior very quickly). |

Thursday, May 19, 2011 4:15:27 PM No fault of the OP (cuz the article is wrong) but these are not dams, they are levees. It's the Daily Mail, so it must be at least partially wrong. It's the least reliable paper in the country. I wonder what the ground is like that the water doesnt leech up through and these properties dont seem to be pumping out water. Same here. This is farmland, right? Doesn't that mean the soil would have to be permeable to water? Although maybe heavy compaction would make it pretty much watertight for a while, long enough for the flooding to have subsided. Does anyone know why it's working? |
