my thoughts exactly. ever heard the phrase "no one ever converted because they lost the argument"? whats the point of preaching AT people? it will never convert someone to your point of view

Free speech only works when and if the crowd agrees with you, like if you planned something and people showed up to support it. Randomly starting something like this will just end up mob mentality, which normally doesn't end well. |

Yeah, Davymid, today it's most of the western world. Freedom of speech (and other individual freedoms recognized by government) had been dallied with over the centuries, but the United States has lead the way, and "most of the western world" has followed our lead since 1776. What we are seeing in the U.S. today is a slap in the face of our founding fathers.
Having said that, Shortbuskid is correct in that this did not occur here, it occurred in Glasgow. So I now hop down off my soap box. |

imagine what would happen if you got up and started preaching about Satanism...
tends to work out more like Equality and free speech for everyone that looks like/acts like/believes what i do/ and agrees with me! |

I am appalled and sickened by the fact that that question is even posed here. It is a uniquely American trait that anyone can stand on a soap box in public and speak. That IS the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constition.
Is the person who posted this an American? I can forgive the glaring lack of knowledge if it came from someone NOT American, but if you are an American, and you think that people should be "shut down", or otherwise silenced in public because you don't like what they are saying, then you need to move to Russia and help them try to revive the Soviet Union. |

No matter who you are you have freedom of choice..But forcing your views on others in the name of God ,Allah or any other god is wrong. I would be very afraid if this boy had lots of political power and a whole lot of money.... Just look at our history ..World History.. |

Soapbox preachers never "force people to listen." You can ALWAYS walk away. At the same time, they don't have a monopoly on public space- others certainly have a right to shut them down if they so choose, as in this video. I absolutely encourage that type of behavior. What this man was saying was absolute nonsense.
Also, this was disappointing. I thought the actual person Marilyn Manson was going to walk by and start arguing. |
