What should we say to our kids?
How about: That's a penis.... Or perhaps: [sarcasm]That's a naked statue... you know naked, the thing that's utterly shameful and must NEVER under ANY circumstances be achieved! YOU HEAR ME!? NEVER! FOR SHAME! [/sarcasm]

take the statue down cause sad pathetic parents would rather ignore their children and avoid talking to them about sex then later on complain when they catch their kids having sex in high school. |

You almost got it right, but you should have stopped after "that's what they pee with." If they aren't old enough to know what else it's used for, then I don't tell them there is another use for it. |

Alright, it's pretty tacky to have that in your yard, but it's just nudity. If you've got a little boy, you don't really even need to explain the statue to him because he's already got the same parts and, if you have a little girl, it won't kill you or her to tell her that boys have different parts from girls. If you've got children of both genders, they've probably already seen it, anyway. |

OH goodness.. I'm guessing they NEVER take thier kids to a musem.. and most of those kids have probably seen worse on TV when mom was not looking. |

Not only is it a perfectly normal penis, as in a flaccid one- it is a very small penis. How could anyone find this offensive? Surely this is fine- your child must know what a penis looks like- and if not WHY NOT!!! |

Seriously, when your child doesn't know what a pee-pee and a choo-choo is with the age of 4, there is something wrong with its education.
On behalf of the neighbour: Douchy behaviour, even if it's your right to do it, keep peace in your neighbourhood. Especially if it's about a pooty replica of a piece of art you bought for 10$. |

Look. We know about the difference between genders long before the sex talk.
Hell, I knew about sex long before the sex talk. My mom took me aside and started trying to give me the talk, and I said "no, it's ok mom--I already know all about it." awkwardness avoided.
We're way too protective of our kids in the US... so protective that we assume they're more innocent than they actually are. |

While I don't really understand why he has it outside (I've never really seen anyone put art on their lawn like that), those neighbors really do need to get over themselves. Their kids are going to find out about genitalia sooner or later. If you're not prepared to answer your child's questions about personal things like that, you're not going to be a very helpful parent. People today just expect the schools to teach their kids everything at the "appropriate age". |
