Is this for real? I assumed it was until I read that the dogs teeth are occasionally swapped out for titanium for attacking enemy armor?! Sounds like the tank dogs of WW2. And that is sad. |

PapSett: Yeah, I'm with you, it's sad. And I don't buy into the part that's all: generally the dogs get adopted. Generally?? Doubt it.... I'm sure it's done more 'greyhound style' if you catch my drift.
BUT- I don't really think it would be safe for anyone to adopt a trained killing machine... and I don't think they can really be rehabilitated to a normal, domestic dog life.
So what's the solution? I don't know... maybe some sort of retirement home for the dogs? A farm, if you will. Sounds pricey.

I wonder if THESE dogs are going to be left behind as excess weapons as military dogs have been in the past? Some were euthanized when they were no longer needed, others simply abandoned. The soldiers who handled them were not allowed to bring them home as the dogs were considered deadly weapons. It is one of the dirty little secrets of our military. I hope things have changed for the better for these dogs who are, indeed, every bit as much heroes as their human counterparts. |
