Tuesday, May 03, 2011 5:42:27 AM My comp was down for days with a virus :( Curses @davymid! I'll fool you yet! (lolz! I joke! I submit LOTS of non-political stuff too, eh?) The issue is that they failed to give credit (and a couple of bucks) to the artists they covered or sampled from. If they had, they wouldn't have lost the suits. OTOH perhaps it was a cleaver ploy: Hey, we'll make lots of money, then share it, tax-free, with the origional guys through lawsuits! |

Monday, May 02, 2011 8:49:38 PM I like the K. Pilkington quote, but...LZ never gave credit where it was due. That's why they got their asses sued. The Rolling Stones LOVED the blues, but they put their own twist on it--didn't just call it their own creation--& really advocated for the OG Bluesmen (Muddy Waters, et al). I have always loved LZ'a zound--& still do--but they should've f*cking owned up & given proper credit (legally). What would some of you be saying if Run DMC tried to act like they themselves wrote every word & musical note of "Walk this Way"? If you love music, then you MUST get what I'm sayin. |

Monday, May 02, 2011 12:56:22 AM how did i know that some @$$hole had to mention rap music in a subject that clearly has nothing to do with it other than its musical genre? |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 11:45:27 PM Went out on limb on this bet. Knew it was 5Cats from the description, even though it wasn't political (for once). Still batting at 100%. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 10:30:32 PM Yep, they're called cover songs. Every band in the history of the world has done them. I'm not disputing the implication that Zeppelin sucks though. That is very much true. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 9:56:30 PM It doesn't matter. Zep does a better job playing those songs anyway. Wanna check out rip offs? Check out the Rap music community. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 8:13:11 PM @SarahofBorg There is a difference between say a guy like Eric Clapton who after he got over being declared God by the music fans of London did nothing by talk about where the music he was playing started and LZ who claimed the riffs as there own. These guys essentially stole Willie Dixon songs, reved them tempo, played with the lyrics and presented them as there own. They didnt claim to cover, they claimed to write em. Were the kick ass band? Yes, I have gotten the Led out, but they were dishonest. Worse then the lies to me, is the fact that were ripping off the same people whose albums and songs they obviously loved. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 7:02:49 PM "Led Zeppelin has never sued anyone for sampling their music." I don't if that is true but I do know, Zep has paid out a lot of dough for ripping others. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 6:07:48 PM ...And just how many bands have 'covered' Led Zeppelin over the decades ? At least a hundred. Everything now is a remix of a remix nowadays, One thing though, Led Zeppelin has never sued anyone for sampling their music. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 4:27:46 PM Bad to the Bone is a rip off, Tainted Love is a cover, there's thousands of songs out there that EVERYONE knows that are actually covers of songs that NOBODY knows. Led Zep is hardly alone and I still love them anyway. I happen to like their versions better than the originals anyway. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 12:28:43 PM @ericthevikin and @jensito: Regarding "Hammer of Gods": The book has been the subject of much criticism. All three surviving members of the band have cast doubts on its accuracy, with one article summarising their collective view of the book as a "catalogue of error and distortion." Now, as for the other copyright cases, i have yet to see anything that manifests as nothing but rumors and accusations. I found this article on TMZ, dated june 2010: Led Zeppelin historians have chronicled the creation of that rock band’s early classic “Dazed and Confused” for so long it’s understandable if fans can no longer tell what’s true about its authorship. One thing is for certain: Jake Holmes, a folk singer who asserts he recorded a similar song, also called “Dazed and Confused,” in 1967, says that he is the song’s creator and has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Led Zeppelin. So. |

Sunday, May 01, 2011 11:46:36 AM Zeppelin actually got sued and LOST. For multiple millions. They blatantly ripped off the sounds of the southern blues artists. As did the Beach Boys. Don't believe me? Check out Cadillac Records. Muddy Waters, Lil Walter, and Howlin' Wolf demand it. |
