How do you know that? I doubt the university would care.

Because universities are all about making money and they're looking at a potential law suit from the family of the kid who was assaulted for laughing at the guard. Even if it doesn't come to anything serious, the guard is now more of a liability than a benefit. Plus, like you said, he's really fat. I don't know if I'd call him slow though. Did you see how fast he barreled out of that cart towards the kid after crashing?

"The use, ownership and sale of skateboards were forbidden in Norway, during the period between 1978 and 1989. The ban was said to be due to the perceived high number of injuries caused by boards. The ban led skateboarders to construct ramps in the forest and other secluded areas to avoid the police."

Haha.. cracked me up. What a fascist gig that was. This must have been the most insane law ever passed in this country :-p

This is exactly why I hate many skaters...they intentionally go out looking for trouble like this and then act like the "victims" when they get in trouble. I wish the campus security guy had a taser or something! These jerks had it coming to them.

By the way, youtube "skater hit by car" to see plenty of examples of why skating in public is dangerous.

Damaged cars make it not just the skater's problem.
Potential to cause a crash and hurt drivers makes it not just the skater's problem.
Not just cars use the roads: hit a motorcyclist or a bicyclist and they're just as badly hurt as the skater.

@IrishJesus

"skating is harmless was not directed at the physical risk of injury (a risk that exists in all extreme sports, and even in the all-american football) but that the actual act of skating in a secluded spot is no risk to anyone but themselves"

A footpath on a college campus is not a "secluded area".

And any area that has ANY foot traffic shouldn't be used for an "extreme sport".

You misunderstand the concept of risk.

Risk = probability of happening x expected loss.

Probability may be low, but the expected loss could be considerably high; if someone gets knocked to the ground, serious injury or death may occur, especially if it is a small child, an elderly person, or someone who is otherwise infirm.

Bottom line, do it where you've been given permission.

Spg, that's sadly true. America is sue happy. I was sued by a women i got in a wreck with for "mental anguish". The damage to here car was minuscule, costing less than $100 to fix, which my insurance paid for. But this is all a different problem....

IrishJesus, part of the problem is that if the skater does fall and break an arm they would probably try to sue the property owners. So it does not really matter if anyone is around or not.

And who cares if he has a camera. I wish the guard had a tazer.

Musuko:
I don't condone going on private properties where it isn't allowed and skating. However, my argument that skating is harmless was not directed at the physical risk of injury (a risk that exists in all extreme sports, and even in the all-american football) but that the actual act of skating in a secluded spot is no risk to anyone but themselves, a risk that all skaters learn pretty quickly while learning. Most people I know skate in very low to no pedestrian traffic areas, stopping if ANYONE is too close for comfort, and I hardly ever see skaters that deviate from that example. They were in the wrong for skating on private property without learning whether it was allowed there or not (as I said earlier, people skate all over my campus and no one dies tragic deaths or are tackled and beaten by security), but did you see anyone other than them and security? Skaters intentionally choose low traffic areas because they don't want to hit anyone.

Skaters are always starting poo. I'm sure there is about 5 minutes of footage before this video started of the security guard asking them to leave, and I'm sure they were dicks about it.

Fatass rent-a-cop should have got a beat down after throwing that punch.
I used to skate in the Midwest back in the 80's. It wasn't as socially acceptable back then. There was a lot more harassment. Let me tell you, a skateboard makes for a NASTY weapon.

A little authority is a dangerous thing when given to the wrong people. Chubsy shoulda called the cops and filed trespassing charges. Other than that, his actions were wrong and illegal for the most part. Dumba$$.

Yes, he was wrong for taking the skateboard and /kinda/ for hitting the kid, but at that point the kid was essentially assaulting him. He's just doing his job and they were not "just skateboarding on concrete." It is destruction of property and it doesn't matter if they are students or not. A college campus is private property, you are allowed by the school to use it to get to class, not to grind on.

I guarantee you the university will can his ass for assaulting that kid.

How do you know that? I doubt the university would care. If anything they'll hire a better guard, one less fat and slow.

Your judgment is worthless.

If it were a cop it would be a different story but that guy is a security guard. His badge doesn't mean squat. He is a civilian and those guys just wanted their skateboard back. If he were a cop it wouldn't be a good idea to try to get it back like that but this guy is a security guard flaunting the authority he thinks he has.

@DasUberPoop

I can make myself a badge..does that mean I can take what I want from you?

Security guards are private citizens and have no right whatsoever to confiscate property.

All I see is a bunch of hipster douchetards flaunting their semi"knowledge" of the law and harassing a security guard who's only trying to do his job. He totally crosses the line, but nobody would say he wasn't provoked. You don't GRAB anything back from someone with a badge. You go the proper route and get it back. At that time, you can file a complaint if you feel you've been wronged. The guard says time and time again "how many times have I asked you guys to get off campus." If it's posted policy, then they were totally wrong.

Skater are annoying, and they were trespassing. however, that guy over reacted, and he can't take their personal property. That was illegal for him to take that skateboard.
