Saturday, April 02, 2011 10:29:52 PM "this is a huge waste of money." He earned it. If he wanted to buy $30,000 worth of pencils and sharpen them all down to the erasers just for kicks, it's his money. He should be able to do with it as he pleases. |

Saturday, April 02, 2011 6:57:55 PM @CrakrJak I wasn't talking about holding a camera steady. They have no night vision and the captions are horribly written. Clearly this isn't being run by any official organization. Again you went straight back to class envy and ignored the fact that this is a huge waste of money. Being pissed about a factory dumping toxic waste isn't "productivity envy" but they clearly earned that toxic waste. He even tries to claim his $30,000 helps to feed these people. Do you know how much FOOD $30,000 could buy instead of killing an endangered animal that used to have populations covering the entire continent? |

Friday, April 01, 2011 9:39:10 PM @basketkase: Because as humans we are narcissistic by nature. We are supposed to be on top of the animal kingdom in intellect and reasoning. You don't see apes creating airplanes. Therefore we develop a higher set of morals. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 9:22:44 PM why are we not considered part of nature... when an animal kills a human it was protecting it territory or something of that nature but when a human does it hes a monster. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 8:49:27 PM I-IS-BORED: Yes, Keith2 did say that he hated Bob because he paid 'moar' (his spelling not mine) for that trip than Keith made in a year. That is the essence of class envy, He doesn't believe Bob deserves what he's earned and assumes that Bob doesn't work as hard as he does. You are also making an assumption that the money Bob paid for the trip goes to some nefarious people. That's a backhanded way of calling Bob a criminal. That's a tall assumption to make based only on the quality of the video. Btw, I dare you to keep a steady camera at night in a sorghum field with wild bull elephants only a few yards from you. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 7:41:47 PM @CrakrJak Keith said none of that, keith is pissed that this guy spent $30k on stupid poo, and considering the quality of this 'film' I wouldn't be surprised if that $30,000 turned up in a criminal organization. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 5:25:52 PM At first I was really upset by this because I assumed it was just for sport, but when I realized that 1) they were causing a large amount of damage to the village and 2) the people of the village, rather than just leaving it there, used to for food afterwards, I didn't mind as much. I wish it didn't have to be done in the first place, but they had valid justifications. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 3:41:51 PM Also, perhaps these hungry people might not have to rely on some thuggish CEO killing the elephant if Mugabe and his thugs mismanaged the land redistribution back in 2000. Zimbabwe was the bread basket of Africa and now it's a mess. Tourism in Zimbabwe is hardly first class, I wonder if this was a 'canned' hunt. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 3:27:18 PM Enjoying in the kill and the 'celebration' afterward is the part I find most sadistic. The mastery we think we have over nature is just an illusion. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 1:14:05 PM These elephants were destroying the farm. Relocation is typically the first resort, but culling is necessary if they refuse to move. The locals would be able to use every last bit of the elephant, from meat to ivory to hide, and leave nothing wasted. The money spent on the hunt likely went to the local government. Elephants may be intelligent animals, but I doubt most of you have seen the damage they can do first-hand. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 1:09:46 PM "Wrong as elephants numbers are dwindling" Actually, no. Elephant numbers have been rising for the past decade or so as a result of conservation efforts. In areas, the population of elephants is too high, and they can raze large areas, stripping them of vegetation before moving on. In fact, there are people hired to kill elephants in specific circumstances. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 11:42:43 AM I'm glad it was used for food, but you shouldn't kill a wild animal just because it acts like a wild animal. Maybe a$$holes should be killed for being a$$holes.. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 10:54:56 AM I don't agree with killing for fun. Hunting for food is a different matter, but killing Elephants because their disruptive to a human community is ridiculous. There are other ways around the problem |

Friday, April 01, 2011 10:14:54 AM Why is music from Full Metal Jacket playing in the background? This is just another stupid hunting video, does great disservice to the movie. I think banjo music would've been more appropriate. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 9:37:07 AM The money that was spent to kill the animal most likely went toward animal conservation in an effort to help the wildlife. People here in the United States spend up into the six digits just to kill a deer or ram that has tremendous antlers or horns on there dome at which point they are killing just for the antlers and could care less about the meat. Don't get me wrong they donate they meat, but at least this guy is killing something that is a nuisance. |

Friday, April 01, 2011 9:31:06 AM @ Gerry - The tools being materials to build a fence to put around their crops and a deterrent system like people use in other parts of the world. Like installing bee hives. It gives them a new source of food / income, and keeps the elephants away because they don't like getting stung.

Friday, April 01, 2011 9:13:53 AM I don't know about Zimbabwe specifically, but some African countries will attempt to relocate nuisance elephants and use culling as a last resort. Usually these kills are handled by rangers, but others can buy the "right" if they have enough money. South Africa reintroduced elephant culling in 2008 after 14 years of prohibition. Why? The elephant population exploded and began to affect other animal populations. |
