Not going to donate. The world is overpopulated... I don't wish death on anyone really, but I will not stand in the way of what I consider progress. Yes, I would feel the same if it were to hapen us/me.

But japan is like the 3rd largest economy... they don't need cash... they need manpower to get through the debri. We have a base full of Marines on Okinawa island off the coast. Send them in, I'm all for it.

That I agree with. Granted, they're not specifically trained for search and rescue like this, but they're well trained to work together efficiently, versatile and some of their equipment would be very useful.

yes, britton gives a larger "portion". But US still tops dollars.

You stated that the USA has paid for everything in the past and present ("got the check") and it's time that *Europe* started paying ("time to step up to the plate*).

Europe pays a lot more in overseas aid than the USA. A lot more overall, a lot more in terms of %age of GDP.

It's worse for the USA if you look at the EU as a whole, whether you look at raw monetary value of overseas aid or overseas aid as a percentage of GDP. That's including the relatively poor countries in the EU, which contribute relatively small amounts. The top 3 EU countries alone roughly match the USA in raw monetary value and greatly exceed it in %age of GDP.

So please, stop acting as though the USA does everything for overseas aid and Europe does nothing.

My point was that I am not Rich. Neither is the U.S. Not anymore.
We're so far in debt I doubt we can get out. We're broke but don't want to
admit it.

First of all, squirrel, reporters report, they do not know better. Dont ask anything from them except exaggerations
Im pretty sure the japanese can pay for it, theyre the third richest country in the world. Noone has lost anything they cant get back, its not like haiti. In fact, i read an article from a spanish dude that has lived there for 20 years, and he says most young people dont work, they really dont need to, sounds like theyll be alright.
Money is not the problem here. The problem is the nuclear reactors, and there is literally nothing we can do for that, the eu and the us have to deal with it together with the japanese government. If they dont, pollution to the water could be fatal.
Dont agree with gerry1of1. if the nuclear issue gets out of proportions, youll be the first to be affected.
Also, nobody cares about pearl harbor.
Hope im not forgetting about anything

Brimstoneone is right. They've even admited they can fix things, they are just lacking in people who KNOW how to do things (search wreckage, help at the hospital, ect ect)They need the people with the knowledge to get handle things to help. And that can follow direction. They have the plans and back up plans on how to handle the Nuclear reactor, just not enough people available to get it done.

I'm not unsympathetic to the plight of other people.

But the U.S. has to realize it's broke.
We are out of money.
We have spent more than we make for so long it could topple any time.

So I feel bad for the Japanese, but I can't pay to fix it.

Europe... time to step up to the plate and cover this one for us. We got the check last time.

I'm with Gerry on this one, they need man power and lots of it. especially nuclear power technicians that willing to toss their odds up on a 2% chance of a serious cancer or 'glow a little bit'. Their emergency services need a man power boost, in serious way. Money ain't an issue it people power to that of time.

Also, and I could be wrong about this, I think the money donated through the Red Cross goes to the people directly in the form of food and water and help getting their lives back on track. The government is going to have to worry about infrastructure first.

"Donate? Japan is a rich, modern nation. Why does it need our money?"

Because cleanup will take BILLIONS of US dollars and take YEARS. I don't care if you're the richest country in the world, you can't account for something like this and still maintain any kind of economy.

Donate?

Japan is a rich, modern nation. Why does it need our money?
Manpower, sure! Send all our troops from Okinawa over to help. What they're facing is
overwhelming, but they aint poor. It's not Haiti or Sri Lanka we're talking about.
