I'm guessing it didnt explode. I think if you run, you will likely get shrapnel, i would have taken 2 steps and hit the ground.

Saw a similar type vid on liveleak but instead of a dud launch the guy disappeared into a large puff of smoke when it detonated at the bottom of the tube. |

You seem to have overlooked about a third of my post:
But "probably" and "should have been" are trumped by "will kill you if it does explode near you", so running away is the way to go.

they are actually designed to go off after a certain number of full rotations. HOWEVER, any time an explosive ordinance fails to fulfill its intended purpose you should RUN LIKE HELL (words from my drill instructor during basic).
Trust me, it was NOT safe to stay there. Once ordnance has malfunctioned you have to remember that it is still a high explosive and by nature, wants to explode...and usually when you are trying to retrieve it. |

There probably wouldn't have been one. They're designed to not explode unless they have travelled some distance and *then* hit something. It should have been perfectly fine to stay there.
But "probably" and "should have been" are trumped by "will kill you if it does explode near you", so running away is the way to go. |

if u look closely, the camera shows movement up until the howitzer prematurely jizzes, then it just stays still like on a tripod, so i think the camera man did run |

Technically they're okay as a mortar round required a certain amount of force and distance for the main primer to activate.
I'd still run like hell too though... |
