I don't really understand what these people want. Is the memory of their loved ones not enough, who cares what happens to the body, I don't care if people piss and poo all over my face when I'm dead. Who cares what happens to the site? Who cares if a museum is placed there. Holy drat people.

Do you have to be physically close to the remains of your loved ones to be capable of feeling something for them? WTF

people die everyday, many of the people that died in the 9/11 were heroes who selflessly risked their lives to save people who probably weren't worth the time spent to save them, much less their lives. the rest were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, no one erects a memorial for someone who chokes on an olive, or gets hit by a bus, so why is this different?

I pontificate that the Imam is more of a ceremonial figure rather than an official one. An Imam by the in Islam can be considered for instance the leader of a community.

YAWN!

I feel bad for these people who lost their family members, I really do, but I'm sick and drating tired of hearing it. This 10 year anniversary is going to be a clusterdrat of bitching Americans.

Cajun: Rauf is not the Imam, He's now the co-developer after he stepped down from being the project's imam. Abdallah Adhami was then hired and has since stepped down from the project due to remarks he made about homosexuality.

I am SO sick of hearing all these 9/11 people b*tch and complain about everything. It is 100% impossible to get 100% of these people satisfied. Be it about the remains, memorial, freedom tower, a mosque being built several city blocks away, and then the truthers... If I had the chance I would move out of the U.S. Between the politicans, the 9/11 nuts, and the racists I'm fed up with this country and hate the direction its going.

What two imams?

I've only heard of one: Feisal Abdul Rauf, a sufi. He's been backing the project ever since. Hell, before this event he led prayers on the same spot since before 9/11.

then why do they need an imam

What he's in charge of the place, will he own it? What the assertion here?

LazyMe: Freedom tower wasn't built as a competition for the world's tallest building, it's height of 1776 feet is symbolic of the year we declared our independence.

Also the property is privately owned, The rebuilding project is ran by the owner Larry Silverstein, not the government.

Cajun: If it's not a mosque as you assert, then why do they need an imam ? They've already dismissed two imams from the project because of extremist remarks they've made.

Christians don't need to hire a pastor for an apostolic center, YMCA, or 'community center', So why do muslims need an imam for their non-mosque ?

haha i was referring to the fact that im not really doing anything productive. And thank you. I thought it was a Mosque. Doesnt matter though because like you said it has nothing to do with 9/11.

And the big F_YOU to the terrorists should be America coming together and people of all religious backgrounds living along side each other peacefully, because that's what they don't want.

like fighting in a flame war on the internet.

I'd pefer to read it than listen to it on TV. Plus you don't have to worry about getting interrupted.

that mosque there

It's not a mosque it's a community center. Anyone can use for prayer (and many other things).

That being said it really has nothing to do with the "memorial". Whomever are behind this "remains" arrangement are the real douchebags here.

I could be wrong but I bet some of the victims were Muslim. Should we group them with the terrorists? Its like grouping all Christians as ku klux klan members. People keep saying its a slap in the face, its not. How about putting your time, money, and effort into something that really matters, like fighting in a flame war on the internet. (I know im a bit hypocritical)

I'd rather they didn't build that mosque there. Then again, I'd rather they not build any sort of religious structures...

So it comes down to if they have the right. Based on what I've seen, they do.

And as to the memorial? It's taken them a decade to start building a replacement. If they wanted to give the biggest "f*ck you" to the terrorists (as Penn and Teller rightly put it) to simply rebuild the towers asap, they're past due.

IMO they could have built something much more impressive there. You put in a trillion dollars into your defense yet the budget for this project - which obviously has massive morale-affecting effects - is what? A billion tops. If it was up to me I would have spent 10 billion on a new world trade center, made it a kilometer high just to show off.

So it's wrong to have a community center? It's wrong to develop an area which by the way the previous owner REALLY wanted to get rid of?

Cajun: Having the right to do something and actually DOING what is right can be two different things as you well know.

Just as in an eminent domain case, The government has the right to take your property for 'the greater good', but that doesn't make it right for them to do so.

That should say:

"...the majority agrees that [they] have the right to develop the area in question as they see fit."

It really doesn't matter, because they have a right to do whatever they like...

...and the majority agrees.

Or rather what owner Z can do to his property should be restricted.

Take the piece to the Smithsonian it doesn't need to stay there.
