I remember that lesson at my school, it wasn't about actually segregating black & white students. It was about teaching how humiliating and degrading slavery is.
It probably played out like this when he got home.
Child - "Hi Mom"
Mom - "Hi how was your day?"
Child - "Oh it was great! Today, in social studies, it was so much fun, we learned about slavery, and they split up the class and me and Robby, and Trevor we were slaves, and then Cindy and that girl I like Mandy came over and were touching my leg, and Mandy actually bought me for the project, so I actually got to talk to her."
Mom - "Oh my lord, are you... oh my... are you serious! Where's Jesse Jackson's phone number... lawsuit money coming to this family right here, what what!" |

She's just mad that she's fat. At least the reporter interviewed her in the kitchen. Which is exactly where she belongs. Also the teacher maybe went a LIIIIIITTLE too far, but meh. Black people should still be slaves anyways IMHO. |

Why shouldn't they learn about real life? This happened in the USA, and every other country in the West not that long ago, and there are still slaves in every one of those countries today, they are just hidden. I see your from the South, hiltacular, so stop acting so shocked and grow up. |

Come on! Are people not even a bit more self aware? How could they have not thought there would have been a backlash, no matter how innocent the intentions? At the very least let the black students be the slave masters. |

Sounds like a good hands on object lesson.
Obviously white students were also "slaves," and probably other black students were both slaves and masters, why did they not feel degraded? This story is about over-sensitivity, not racism. |
