Monday, March 14, 2011 4:22:01 PM I laughed so hard when I saw the sign that said "SCHOOL XING"!!! No wonder education is failing... |

Saturday, March 12, 2011 8:44:27 PM our school used to have slave auctions, it was in general an auction to raise money for ...something. kids volunteered to be slaves and then people bid on them and the next day the "slaves" would do whatever their winner said (within school policy), they could even provide them with things to wear...my senior year the changed the name to "servant auction" |

Saturday, March 12, 2011 9:07:11 AM This was a little weird I admit but im sure the teacher didn't choose all black children to be the slaves. Im so sick of this being such a touchy subject. Not everything unorthodox someone does to a black human being has is racist damn. |

Friday, March 11, 2011 4:49:27 PM wow when I was in 5th grade my teacher gave us "pay checks" based on our grades. We then had to pay rent on our desks and classroom stuff. Those of us with bad grades.. were poor and lived on "skid row" and couldn't afford to buy trips to the bathroom, or balls for recess. I thought that was bad...I can't imagine how this plays out on the playground. |

Friday, March 11, 2011 12:06:13 PM Why is slavery always brought back to a race issue? Before Europeans made their way into Africa, the majority of the slave population were fellow whites. When they made it to Africa, the majority of people selling blacks into slavery were *GASP* OTHER BLACK PEOPLE! I imagine it was the same way in Asia, the majority of slaves were most likely Asians |

Friday, March 11, 2011 5:32:03 AM ...What is wrong with that teacher? It doesn't even matter whether the kid was white or black. Being made to stand up somewhere while people "feel" you and look at you to determine your "price" is just f*cked up. Sometimes I can't believe the sh*t that people try to pull these days. |

Friday, March 11, 2011 5:06:35 AM it's all a part of the thinking-feeling spiral, which is an effective method in creating and teaching lessons, especially social studies. guaranteed that kid is never going to forget what he learned, despite his parents feeling offended. |

Friday, March 11, 2011 12:06:51 AM "It wasn't a white kid, it was a black kid, so it is a big deal moron." Why? That is a racist supposition in itself. |

Thursday, March 10, 2011 9:53:40 PM Unless all the "slaves" were black there is no racism in it. If this were a white kid no one would say a thing, and that is the racist part. |

Thursday, March 10, 2011 8:56:50 PM And this is why you shouldn't tell your parents what you learned in school that day. Just mumble "nothing" like a normal kid, or you're going to end up looking like an ass on the news. |

Thursday, March 10, 2011 8:16:18 PM People need to grow the heck up. This sounds like a variation of the brown eyes/blue eyes experiment: http://www.janeelliott.com/ Albeit, poorly done...I don't think Jane Elliott had auctions in her original experiment. |

Thursday, March 10, 2011 7:13:53 PM They didn't pick only the black students, they divided the class evenly. I thought it was a creative lesson actually. |

Thursday, March 10, 2011 5:51:38 PM I wish my teachers were this interesting and immersive in their lesson. In this lesson, the kid actually learns a little something of what slaves went through, instead of just hearing "it was bad and stuff" 400 times. It's stupid parents like her that are ruining a lot of education these days. Remember, it's better to learn by doing than it is by learning. |
