Its not the final velocity that kills you (initial velocity + (acceleration x time))its the force of impact (mass x (change in velocity/change in time) |

Someone already said it, but...
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the end.
First equation is for the final velocity at impact. Second equation is for the force of impact, determined by the change in velocity over the change in time, multiplied by the mass. Large change in velocity over a short period of time (ie sudden stop) = big force. |

more physics than math... well... I don't think you can separate them completely but ya get my drift.
I totally got this. The animation made me think of Portal, which is ironic since there is no fall damage in portal, even at terminal velocity. |

@Crayola96 No, the first equation is velocity, not calculating speed. Speed and velocity are fundamentally different. Speed does not account for direction, velocity does. The second equation is force, not velocity. That's what the big "F" means. |

First equation is used for calculating speed. Second one is used for calculating velocity.
Therefore, as others have already said, its not the speed of the fall that will kill you, its the force at which you fall. |
