Saturday, March 05, 2011 11:14:54 AM It would probably be better described as the "jerk" function (the derivative of acceleration) which forms a characteristic and easily identifiable inflection point near the end of the otherwise-flat acceleration curve. |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 10:37:44 AM actually its not the change in velocity that kills you, but the uneven change in velocity. if your gut decelerates faster than your pack, then you will be squished |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 10:10:04 AM Geez, look at how many "math geeks" are failing at this one. "F" people, not A. It's the FORCE of the impact. Yes, it is due to the acceleration. Technically it is the "impulse" that kills you. |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 5:36:59 AM Its not the velocity that kills you, its the sudden deceleration. Is IAB retarded or something? |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 3:50:43 AM Speed never killed anyone. Acceleration is to blame. |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 2:32:27 AM Simple Physics: It's not the final velocity (speed) that kills you, it's the force of the ground decelerating you. Force = mass * acceleration, and acceleration is change in velocity over change in time (hence the triangle v over triangle t) |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 2:07:12 AM It's not the fall that hurts, but when you hit the ground. Isn't that a song by The Ceasars? |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 1:35:23 AM Wow, it is an old saying broken down into an equation. If you don't get this, go back to school (and yes I'm getting laid tonight). |

Saturday, March 05, 2011 12:52:19 AM its not the velocity you have that kills you, but the rapid deceleration at the end. |

Friday, March 04, 2011 11:09:43 PM Basically, for those of you who don't understand math humor, it's not the fall that kills you.....it's the impact. |

Friday, March 04, 2011 11:08:49 PM It's not the speed, it's the acceleration, or deceleration rather. Not funny. I could just as easily say it's not the acceleration but the impact force on internal organs. Or not even that... it's the lack of tensile strength in organ tissue |

Friday, March 04, 2011 11:06:07 PM Wow guys. Half of y'all have no clue what's going on. The first equation is just an equation to figure out velocity with a given initial velocity and acceleration and time. The second equation measures the amount of force, or time to slow down an object which weighs mass, m, and is traveling at velocity, v. Basically the heavier of an object you are, the more time or force it takes to slow you down (without getting hurt) sooo don't jump off a damn building. |
